I miss Lockheed and McDonnell Douglas. I even miss Convair, even though I never flew in one of their jets.
Lockheeds Galaxy almost became a civilian jumbo jet in its own right, the proposed Lockheed L500.

I've seen it written that the Lockheed L-1011 was cutting edge in many ways...for its time.OTOH,my very first flight was with my Dad in 1962...the Lockheed Electra.I was old enough then to hear the news and read the papers and,as a result,I knew that the Electra had a less that perfect...a *much* less than perfect...safety record.
I nearly peed my pants on that flight I was so scared. But since then I've logged about 500,000 flying miles suffering nothing more than a stiff neck from trying to sleep sitting upright...and being on a plane that had a bomb threat called in on it.
