It was expected that several players from the Yankees and Nationals would take a knee during or prior to the national anthem on Opening Day. Though, it wasn’t widely expected that every player and coach from both teams would do it.
But, that’s exactly what happened.
The players knelt in protest in front of an empty stadium. MLB has closed their stadiums to fans during their abbreviated season due to the coronavirus.
After the death of George Floyd and the ensuing civil unrest that has swept through the country since late May, MLB has become more vocal on social justice issue. The league’s social media accounts have tweeted dozens of Black Lives Matter messages. In addition, MLB has stenciled Black Lives Matter on the pitchers mounds in all ballparks during their opening weekend.

This is nuts.
All professional sports are dead to me. College football is only on life support because my wife is a huge fan.
I might see some farm league baseball games, if they ever come back.
Each of those teams should be glad they played with essentially no fans present, lest bottles, cans, batteries, tomatoes and rotten eggs were thrown at them before a stadium of fans screaming f-bombs at them one, and all!
A number of years ago, a ball player out of Atlanta, rode the NY subway and described the passengers to a tee!
Following John Rocker’s very apt description of the NY subways, he was banished from the US, if not the entire human race!
Unfortunately for Mr. Rocker, that was before the internet was “invented” by Al Gore or Rocker would have found he had lots of folks who agreed with his assessment (a number of whom were forced onto the subway each and every day!)

Hmm, used to be a YUGE baseball fan - not so much now. They have stopped entertaining me, and that's all they are - like actors and musicians - just entertainers.

I will bet the mortgage there was tremendous peer pressure to make sure everyone kneeled.
