There was much speculation that the return of sports would bring with it a return of protesting during the national anthem.
Well, that speculation turned out to be accurate.
Before Monday night’s Spring Training game against the Oakland A’s, Giants manager Gabe Kapler, first base coach Antoan Richardson and outfielders Jaylin Davis, Mike Yastrzemski and Austin Slater, knelt during the national anthem.
Hitting coach Justin Viele also took a knee. Brandon Crawford put his hands on Davis’ and Richardson’s shoulders.
According to KNBR in San Francisco:
Kapler, whose parents were civil rights activists, had signaled he would have ‘difficult’ conversations with the team in the clubhouse following the death of George Floyd in police custody and the ensuing fury and protests that spilled out across the country and globe.
Kapler, in stating that ‘Black Lives Matter,’ said, ‘Racism, sexism, homophobia and examples of privilege and inequality are happening all the time in the baseball environments as well as in society. White men are privileged.’
None had kneeled during the Cactus League games in February and March. Kapler, asked why Floyd’s death while a Minnesota policer officer knelt on his neck had affected him so, said in May: ‘I think it’s perhaps that it’s the fact that you need to ask that question. We shouldn’t have to ask ‘why this case’ about the deaths of unarmed black men in this country. It should be an abhorrent aberration when it happens instead of just another statistic. Unfortunately, that isn’t yet our reality.’
Whether the Giants coaches and players plan to continue their protests during the regular season, remains unclear.

The only problem there is that it’s easier to kick a kneeling man than one one his feet.
Never give a SJW or a virtue signaler a free swing.
Well, yeah ... that I played Football and not Baseball probably shows.
Ive already deleted my MLB apps and stopped following the Rangers on Twitter. I wont watch an inning.
When’s the {{{empty}}} grand opening happening? Tonight?
its a dead franchise, almost nobody goes to ball games anymore due to these anti-American demonstrations by overly-spoiled, multi-millionaire players
to Hell with them!
and there are tons of other entertainments and recreations and hobbies for fun! we don’t need to give our hard-earned money to these spoiled Pigs!
Don’t the guys who AREN’T kneeling know that these a$$holes are costing them money?
They must know that the show’s over already.
Those cardboard cutouts aren’t paying for tickets, they keep this up and they’ll be playing for cutouts until their clubs go bankrupt.
Hi.
Maybe the National past time is past it’s time?

Well played sir!
Its on Thursday.
More proof I made the right decision to leave NFL, NASCAR and others. IMHO, far too many blacks hate America.
stand on top of the dugout...and wave the American flag!
Maybe its time to spend your leisure money on local high school teams...more errors and missed tackles, but, the players have enthusiasm
Done with it here unless they quickly reverse (which won’t happen). Sticking to my word.
Guess I won’t be watching sports at all this year...
Baseball is dead to me!
The NFL, MLB and Nascar have gone out of their ways to piss off their major fan bases. I am done with them. Drag Racing is still on the table though. Hard to protest over the noise of a 700HP engine.
The stinking dead attempt to rise ...
“Guess I wont be watching sports at all this year...”
Good! Go for a walk, `toss the pill’ with your son, check your `to do’ list, or just read a good book.
Time used far more profitably than in front of the `idiot box’.
It sucks. But at least we can sleep at night
