There was much speculation that the return of sports would bring with it a return of protesting during the national anthem.
Well, that speculation turned out to be accurate.
Before Monday night’s Spring Training game against the Oakland A’s, Giants manager Gabe Kapler, first base coach Antoan Richardson and outfielders Jaylin Davis, Mike Yastrzemski and Austin Slater, knelt during the national anthem.
Hitting coach Justin Viele also took a knee. Brandon Crawford put his hands on Davis’ and Richardson’s shoulders.
According to KNBR in San Francisco:
Kapler, whose parents were civil rights activists, had signaled he would have ‘difficult’ conversations with the team in the clubhouse following the death of George Floyd in police custody and the ensuing fury and protests that spilled out across the country and globe.
Kapler, in stating that ‘Black Lives Matter,’ said, ‘Racism, sexism, homophobia and examples of privilege and inequality are happening all the time in the baseball environments as well as in society. White men are privileged.’
None had kneeled during the Cactus League games in February and March. Kapler, asked why Floyd’s death while a Minnesota policer officer knelt on his neck had affected him so, said in May: ‘I think it’s perhaps that it’s the fact that you need to ask that question. We shouldn’t have to ask ‘why this case’ about the deaths of unarmed black men in this country. It should be an abhorrent aberration when it happens instead of just another statistic. Unfortunately, that isn’t yet our reality.’
Whether the Giants coaches and players plan to continue their protests during the regular season, remains unclear.

Someone should stand-on-the-bench stand to emphasize their not kneeling.
mlb is blm backwards.
If they’re going to make a mockery over this, I’d kneel on both knees and suck my thumb.
fmlb
Note that they are broadcasting the Korean and Japanese leagues. Not sure where to find them, but I know at least Korean baseball was looking at trying to get an American audience.
You would be surprised how many American players play on Korean baseball teams.
It’s starting to look like if I need a baseball fix I will need to invest in a baseball simulator and draft from a historical database.
Watch Korean baseball on ESPN:
hey that’s GOOD!!! Can I borrow that?!?! :)
As for all of the BASEBALL FANS here..I expect you all to put up if you demanded us NFL fans to stop watching.
I will not watch this year’s NFL season.
MLB should be off everyone’s list too now.
But if there’s an NFL thread this year, I won’t cast stones, as long as those folks didn’t ask others to give up their sports viewing.
I’ll probably even read the thread and get down reading about how the season is progressing :(
But they did it to themselves
Ping-a-ling
If they don’t like the country, I suggest they go to one of these places: venezuela, somalia, north korea.
It’s too bad there are no fan crowds any more. Korean baseball is crazy fun when the fans start getting into it, the fans go nuts. If you ever have the opportunity, go to a game in Korea.
They aren’t such Giants after all.
Ive already deleted my MLB apps and stopped following the Rangers on Twitter. I wont watch an inning.
It SUCKS.
But there are a million things in this world to watch and do.
I am working on finding a replacement for nfl viewing, which took up ALL Sunday from morning until midnight and Monday and Thursday night.
We should start a (things to replace major league sports following) on here :)
I was thinking model fighter jets and battle ships :)
I hope the Giants will go bankrupt and disappear. Maybe these “athletes” can get a productive job. It may only pay $10-$15 an hour, but they will finally be useful. Time to move on from a children’s game that I will no longer watch.
Use as needed.
lol Thanks.
How often will something be BLM backwards??
IT’s gold!! :)
Someone should stand-on-the-bench stand to emphasize their not kneeling.
Or better yet....stand on top of the dugout
