Jack stands are vital safety items for any work you do underneath your car, which is why the Harbor Freight Tools jack stand recall was such a big deal. Many of you may have their jack stands in your garage right now. Unfortunately for one Harbor Freight customer, a replacement for his warrantied-out three-ton jack stands failed, too
Mike Galli was about to do some maintenance work on his Volkswagen Golf using the replacements he got for his recalled Harbor Freight jack stands. As soon as the full weight of the car was lowered onto the stands, he heard a loud pop from the base of one jack stand splitting apart.

I have several from Autozone.
There are a couple of 4 ton stands that have kept the project K5 supported for a year or two. It will get there some day.
That doesnt have the stability of a jack stand. Okay for getting it up to put A stand under it. It is not safe to work under any car suspended on a scissor jack.
It’s mostly the little things and decent body tubs.
I really want to visit their store one of these days. I have been told it is a really cool old school tool shop.
I do that with the wheels also. A safety backup.
I has better stability than some jack stands I’ve used.
Plus it has passed the test of time. [I did see a OEM car scissor jack shear off the threads while in [my] use - impressive]
I use it in addition to a theoretically less safe hydraulic floor jack.
Yep - I returned the recall ones and picked up a new set. I haven’t even opened the box yet. I don’t think that I’ll go for pair #3...
It was a different issue between the two recall batches. In the first the vertical arm with the serrated casting notches was bad, resulting in stands that would “set” and then collapse.
The second recall had to do with stands that had defective welding.
It is that great chinese steel holding chinese building together and the California Bay Bridge.
Chinese labor and Chinese steel was supposed to save hundreds of millions of dollars, but the new Bay Bridge span came in $5 billion over budget and ten years late.

One whistleblower even called for a criminal investigation, but none ever took place. Caltrans boss Tony Anziano, who had been so impressed with the Chinese in 2011, conveniently retired. Confronted with the safety problems, governor Jerry Brown famously quipped, I mean, look, sh#!t happens.
Its been a long time since I visited. If you like antique tools you will enjoy it.
> Are you trying to say that a 4 angle grinder that costs nine bucks might not be of the highest quality? SHOCKING!!!!
I’ve had my $10 HF angle grinder for at least a decade, and, because it was so cheap to begin with it’s spent the last 5 years duct-tapped to a two foot long handle that serves to keep my fingers away from the plastic filament that’s wrapped around the mandrel.
My $150 Echo weed-whacked died on me, so...
Something about Moms, necessity and invention solved a problem that I probably would not have tried using a hundred dollar grinder.
Need I say it ? YES !
DON’T TRY THIS AT HOME !!!!!
Given the extremely low price I’ve considered using four of them to drive props on a 110V tethered drone. Probably enough power to haul a 100 foot extension cord and camera at 10 stories off the ground.
Is your real name Red Green?
A lot of tools that say made in China, actually are made in Taiwan. A lot of really good tools are made in Taiwan.
most refrigerators and freezers compressors are made in china along with air conditioners. You have to actually look at the compressor to make sure it isn’t made in china. Embraco makes good refrigeration compressors in Brazil, and sanyo/japan are good too. If you have a newer magic shit (chef) freezer.... good luck. Chinese refrigeration compressors have a real high fail rate, and most brands use them in their lower end products. The largest compressor manufacturer in the USA (Heier...spelling?) was bought out by the chinks.
Ancient Chinese Proverb:
He who use Harbor Freight jack stands.
Take his life in his own hands.
I figure it is my patriotic duty to NEVER GO INTO A HARBOR FREIGHT.
We often don’t have choice which is why the USA needs a uniform across the board import tariff of 20%.
The only hope is for the USA to be self sufficient in everything again. Tariffs solve all the economic problems we face.
