(Vanity) Favorite type of steak for grilling?

Posted on 07/20/2020 3:04:42 PM PDT by neverevergiveup

Sorry for the vanity post, but I have a day off tomorrow (first in awhile) and was thinking about grilling steaks. Would love to hear from FReepers about their favorites. Porterhouse? Filet? Sirloin/sirloin tips? Ribeye? Marinated? Rubbed?

It depends on how hungry one is. A medium sized Ribeye or New York strip usually hits the spot, but sometimes, maybe once a year, a big ol’ Porterhouse is on the menu...

My fave used to be Prime Filets.

Now, I’m starting to favor Prime Rib Eyes....about 1 ¼ inch thick, and grilled on a Kamado Joe.

Hubby has this down to a science.

We used to treat ourselves to a trip into town, for a Pappas Bros steak, but we now think our (hubby’s) steaks are better.

He uses a simple seasoning that makes the steak, as well.

Enjoy your day off and your steak!

Also, marinate in lime juice. It DOESN'T impart a lime taste, the acidity breaks down the connective tissues in the steak and makes it more tender. Use lime juice for beef or pork, use lemon juice for fish or fowl.

Go to youtube and subscribe to Cowboy Kent Rollin's channel, and prepare to learn all kinds of fun cooking stuff.

Have not read the whole thread to see if this has been mentioned. McCormick Montreal Steak Seasoning. Follow the directions on the label, (olive oil, soy sauce and the seasoning) Marinate for a while or use right away. You'll never want to eat a steak without it again.

Love me some ribeyes. With lots of butter and Chicago or Montana steak seasoning.

It’s my one guilty pleasure. I don’t drink, smoke, do drugs, go to the movies or concerts. Every summer I treat myself to one Waygu ribeye per month. 4/per year. Everybody has their vices

“...steaks are not near as good as they used to be, they just don’t have the marbling they used to, I wonder why!!”

The restaurant business gets the U.S. Prime cuts of beef. Yes, marbling is what determines the top beef grades. Choice & Select go to supermarkets.

In April local restaurants were restricted to carry out. One steakhouse was selling steaks for take home grilling, just to stay in business. I grilled these and they were out of this world.

Real difference between restaurants and consumers.
