Spanish glassblower Miguel Arribas spent around 500 hours making the worlds largest glass-blown sculpture, a whimsical castle fashioned after Cinderellas castle, but it took a couple of children just a fraction of a second to ruin it.
Presented as a gift to the museum in 2016 to mark its fifth anniversary, Miguel Arribas record-setting masterpiece was created using around 500,000 glass loops, weighed 60 kilograms and featured spires made with 24-karat gold. It was made up of approximately 30,000 individual parts and weighed over 60 kilograms.

According to sources from the museum, the unfortunate accident occurred on May 30th, when two children visiting the facility with their family crossed the belt barrier while playing and toppled the sculpture. The fall caused the main spire to shatter and caused different degrees of damage to other sections.

The kids better claim they were protesting a racist sculpture before their parents get sued big time.
“Shanghai Museum of Glass” in China, for those wondering.
That blows.
I remember visiting the BM when I was in London. A couple kids starting leaning against statues/pieces from the Parthenon. The security lady almost had a heart attack.
The parents promised to take responsibility for the repairs huh? Ill bet they change their tune. For the same reason car dealers dont let you walk away without a purchase. They know youll never come back.
These people just wanted to get out of there as fast as possible.
As this happened in China, I have a feeling the parents will be compelled in some way to be responsible for the repairs.
I’m sure in China, having unruly kids who cause such problems, will cause a big hit to their social credit score used by the Chinese.
Children in
glass house museums shouldn’t roam zones.
Well, using BLM as justification, might land them in bigger trouble, as Basque Lives Matter could get the little monsters and their parents classified as terrorists.
The sculpture should have been better protected.
Children want to touch the world around them or play with it a little.
Even Communist children.
It actually looks like ice sculptures often seen in fancy restaurants or conference halls.
This article is similar but gives a different cause of the damage;

Here’s the original story about the sculpture being given to the museum;
AAAAUUUUUUUUGH!!!!!
Does “You break it you bought it” apply in China?
Too bad the parents are idiots...
“This is why we can’t have nice things!”
I thought records were meant to be broken?
“The sculpture should have been better protected.
Children want to touch the world around them or play with it a little.”
I agree. When my son was very little, we were visiting Chicago, and he tried to climb into the train layout at the Museum of Science and Industry.
This is why we cant have nice things!
LOL! Probably most of us have heard this at some point in time. A variation on that was “You’ll NEVER have anything nice!”
“That’s coming out of your allowance, kids.”
