Hey Homer, what is the significance of the Writings of John G. Nicolay? I take it it’s a pretty good read?
I’m reading “Lincoln” by Donald right now which sticks as close as possible to Lincoln’s own thoughts. Does Nicolay’s writing give you more of the lay of the land surround Lincoln’s times?

Does Nicolays writing give you more of the lay of the land surround Lincolns times? That's about the size of it. Before long Nicolay will be teamed with John Hay, and between them we should get a good idea of the back story of the Lincoln White House. Nicolay's record may not be as interesting as that of Hay. It is not a diary like Hay's, but more a collection of his papers. I haven't read very far ahead, so we can decide as we go along how good a read it is.
