The NFLs Washington franchise announced on Monday that it is officially retiring the Redskins part of its name. What will they go by now? We have no idea. Its a weird move to announce a name change without a new name, and a theory is emerging that would explain why the club decided to do it that way. According to several Washington Post reporters, the preferred pick for the teams new name is already trademarked by someone else, and the two parties are now fighting over it.

They need to give up on a name that will make Washington happy. Just move 10 miles north and call themselves . . . the "Savage Redskins".

DOH!!! The guy trademarked my serious idea of a nickname of Washington Potomacs. It would refer to the Army of the Potomac and use this insignia:
They could be called the Macs, for short. As in Mac Daddies.

Also recommend returning most of D.C. to Maryland just as they did with the Virginia area of the federal square district.
There are a couple of problems with your good idea. MD doesn’t want it and whatever bit was left would still have three Electoral Votes in Presidential elections because of the 23rd Amendment. Of course everyone knows the Constitution is outdated and much of it was written by slave-owners but still...

The Irony on Political Correctness in the name : Washington Redskins
They will remove the name : "Redskins"
As an insult to noble "Native Americans"
They will remove the name : "Washington"
As an honor to the evil slave owner, George "Washington"

I remember when St. John changed their name from the Redmen to the Redstorm. It was truly a sad day. The Redskins should change their name to the Redtide.

My son in law came up with the Washington Foreskins. It may have been mentioned above; I didn't read through the whole thread. Seems apropos.......

From other posts, it sounds like he is just squatting on domain names.
In trademark, “intent to use” exists, but it’s loaded with minefields!
US Trademark applications are either “in use” or “intend to use,” and the intent type has little value before use occurs. There is no trademark until use, just a filing that gives registration priority to the filer.

Reminiscent of 10-15 years ago when a wag linejumped the PGA (Professional Golfers Assn.) by claiming the PGA.com domain name, for his “Potato Growers of Alberta.” Hilarity ensued.
