"We've learned more due to research and additional scientific evidence and now we know [that] not only wearing a mask prevents the person wearing the mask to transmit to others, but wearing the mask protects the person who's wearing it," said Dean Blumberg, chief of pediatric infectious diseases at UC Davis Childrens Hospital. "So the wearer of the mask, even the standard rectangular surgical masks...will decrease the risk of infection by the person wearing the mask by about 65 percent."

Did you really read it? The whole thing? I doubt it because the conclusion is:
Conclusion
The study suggests that community mask use by well people could be beneficial, particularly for COVID-19, where transmission may be pre-symptomatic. The studies of masks as source control also suggest a benefit, and may be important during the COVID-19 pandemic in universal community face mask use as well as in health care settings. Trials in healthcare workers support the use of respirators continuously during a shift. This may prevent health worker infections and deaths from COVID-19, as aerosolisation in the hospital setting has been documented.
Even your own cherry picked sentence(which is about medical workers exposed all day) supports masks:
Randomised controlled trials in health care workers showed that respirators, if worn continually during a shift, were effective...
Repirator = N95 = mask. Thanks, masks works.
But these made up stats are from experts!
“Respirators”, not surgical masks, not cloth masks. And my quote was from the paragraph right above it. Their conclusion tries to spin it into “everyone wear respirators,” (not cloth, not surgical), which is fine. Go ahead. Have fun!
But it does not support at all that everyone should wear cloth or surgical. Have fun convincing the world to wear respirators!!!
You illustrated absurdity by being absurd.
Thisis horsepucky. The protection figure they quote, 65%, is for breathing thru a wet rag. Ever try that?
And, although they mention aerosol-sized droplets, the size range quoted is about ten times the size of typical aerosol droplets. At best misdirection.
A pack of lies.
Yep. My assumption is masks don't work and will do social distancing as my main protection...
Yup- i remember that- We switched to margarine for a couple of years as parents were on health kick back then- but then they came out and said ‘nope butter ok for you’ and we immediately went back- I want they ears we wasted eating margarine back-
absurd = wearing a mask during a respiratory epidemic?
It’s one.of the links in Wayne07’s compilation post earlier in this thread.
As I stated originally, you used a high risk situation to justify masks in all situations. That is absurd.
No, I use it to counter the falsehood that masks don’t work. If we agree on the truth that they work, then we can debate when and where it makes sense to wear them.
The mask orders for the public do not specify a medical or industrial grade mask. I will never say masks don’t work, but you should also never say any mask works, either.
As I stated, a risk-based approach is necessary. Currently we have government sledgehammers driving screws.
Masks work on spectrum. N99 or N95s are extremely effective and protect the person wearing them. Surgical and cloth masks are much less effective at protecting a lone wearer, but can be effective when everyone wears one. If everyone wears a mask, whatever type, it is a net positive.
First of all, Im just a non-medical person on the internet just commenting. But since this covid is something apparently we havent been exposed to exactly, it sure looks like everyone will get a visit from it.
It is only my guesstimate that someone fit and young with enough vitamin d in their bloodstream and enough sleep, not much stress, would get a lesser case or asymptomatic. That is what tends to happen with other viruses in ones exposure.
You can reverse some proofs of age through diet and exercise. And of course you can do a great job of improving diabetes numbers. You can even cure diabetes with diet in some cases. But youre right; you cant completely get rid of many preexisting things. Like cancer. And TB. Id make sure he had at least a 70 of D on his blood test though. Whatever amount of D daily he needs to take to get it up there.
May your chains rest lightly.
There was a corona vaccine made about 5 Years ago. The researchers called it a success after vaccinating the animals and they were all fine. Then they exposed the animals (ferrets I believe) to the virus (a different corona virus than this one). All of them died.
If you think a mask is a chain, get some freaking perspective. Talk about a pajama boy attitude, that’s it. Sorry if your cheeks get chafed, better to let grandma die.
Spoken like someone who just actually doesn’t want to wear a mask (and follow the other public health measures) and wants to make all sorts of excuses or remarks not to wear a mask.
It really is the way it is with viruses. Everyone around whos in a community DOES get exposed. Sure, a few may somehow avoid exposure (more solitary or just freakish good luck). But what happens when each person gets exposed, inside their bodies, depends on any factors, most of them controllable by a smart animal with a brain that can plan.
I agree that postponing catching covid until decent treatment is available is smart. But we all will be or have been exposed.
Wow. You are a mask-shamer par excellance! Not overly intelligent, but good at shaming!
