A car drove onto a closed freeway early Saturday and struck two people in a crowd protesting against police brutality, killing one and critically injuring the other, authorities said.
Summer Taylor, 24, of Seattle died in the evening at Harborview Medical Center, spokesperson Susan Gregg said.

Dawit Kelete of Seattle drove the car around vehicles that were blocking I-5 and sped into the crowd about 1:40 a.m., according to a police report released by the Washington State Patrol. Video taken at the scene by protesters showed people shouting “Car! Car!” before fleeing the roadway.
Love is in serious condition in the intensive care unit, Harborview, Gregg said.
Love was filming the protest in a nearly two-hour-long Facebook livestream captioned “Black Femme March takes I-5” when the video ended abruptly; with about 15 seconds left, shouts of “Car!” can be heard as the camera starts to shake before screeching tires and the sound of impact are heard.

The driver, who was alone, fled the scene after hitting the protesters, Trooper Chase Van Cleave told The Associated Press. One of the other protesters got in a car and chased the driver for about a mile. He was able to stop him by pulling his car in front of the Jaguar, Van Cleave said.
Troopers arrived, and the driver was put in custody, Washington State Patrol Capt. Ron Mead said.
Kelete was described by offices as reserved and sullen when he was arrested, according to court documents. He also asked if the pedestrians were OK, the documents say.

I understand your sentiment, but keep in mind, they were children only in mind only. One was 24 and the other 32 years old physically.
I share your sympathy for the driver. I hit a guy on a bike about a year ago, and even though I wasn’t at fault, I see it and think of him every day. And for several months after that accident, I saw him all day, every day every time I closed my eyes or my mind was not fully occupied in some other task.
I sure as hell would not convict that guy of anything.

I see my error now. You’re right. He was an innocent motorist going from point A to point B and the Antifa/BLM goons set a trap hoping something like this would happen so they could play victim. Cops should have put up cones, barriers, and such to ward off motirists. Then gone to town and arrested the lot of them.

He was apparently speeding and failed to deal with a situation in which another vehicle was parked crosswise in the street and not in motion.
A competent and sober driver would slow down to assess the situation and deal with it safely.
Another FReeper mentioned having heard a report on Fox News that they guy was being chased by police. If true, and I don’t know if it is, then speeding, reckless driving, or the car being identified as stolen would explain that.
This looks like a case of vehicular homicide.
