Kaepernick isn’t the NFL’s biggest problem, CTE is (chronic brain injuries)
The Undefeated ^ | Aug 2017 | Andre Kimo

As important as the issues surrounding the Kaepernick controversy are, the danger of growing up black and male isn’t the thing that makes me fear the most for my grandson’s life — chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain disease found in athletes, military veterans and others with a history of repetitive brain trauma, is what keeps me up at night.

...Darius has been playing football since he was 5. While it is true that there is no conclusive causal link between football and CTE, the evidence is very compelling and brings me as much if not more concern for Darius at 7 as flashing blue lights would if he were an adult behind the wheel of a car.

...Dave Duerson and Junior Seau purposely preserved their brains when taking their lives, and their autopsies confirmed that they indeed suffered from the disease. CTE was also found in the autopsy of the brain of an 18-year-old who played football. If that’s not enough, Mark Fainaru-Wada, one of the authors of the above book, just co-authored an article for ESPN The Magazine (“Who Does This To People?”) that looks at the collateral damage that CTE and brain injuries have on families of former football players, especially their wives...

...The 2013 book League of Denial is an excellent resource for understanding the history of CTE and brain injuries and the NFL’s denial of the issue.

...After reading League of Denial four years ago, I stopped watching and caring about football altogether. Over the past four years, I’ve tried to get a few of my friends and colleagues to join me in boycotting the NFL because of CTE and brain injuries.

But this players injury is affecting the brains of the owners and coaches.

FAIC let CTE be the death knell for the No Fans League.

I think the idea is...if Goodell and the league were truly “Woke” they would be doing more to address the matter instead of denying it.

I was sympathetic to the player’s cause in seeking help for those suffering from CTE.

And then the player’s started kneeling...never mind.

I’d be sympathetic to the players with CTE issues if the players were press ganged or conscripts.

But, they know the risks and make the money.

Their choice.

Funny thing, some of the most serious brain damage seems to be appearing in some who’ve never played the game...

Don’t they have to find someone that still has a brain in the NFL first?

Goodall always has and will be the NFL’s problem. That and catering to thugs and multimillionaire crybabys. FTNFL! Saw Chiefs win a Super Bown. Nothing else to see,

Goodell represents the owners and they recently renewed his 44 million dollar contract. The owners are the problem.

Too many players went on to be brilliant coaches who played with concussions for me to believe in “the novel CTE brain” disease. If they autopsied infant brains they would probably find the same problem with brains. When are they going to find this injury in boxers who get hit on the head really hard hundreds of time in bouts and sparring? Yet it seems like only when boxers go on being punched into their middle to late 30’s that they have significant brain injury.

I predict that we’ll have a class action lawsuit against all the whitey owners for deliberately ignoring medical advice and making these black players play football, with only millions and millions of compensation, shame on them..

I loved NFL play in my youth. It has become political and I have no interest in it today with the exception of advertisers that support it. I boycott them.

ps
What the hell is this insanity about the name of the Washington Redskins? Football is a game of warriors on the field. Indians should be honored to have a football team named after noble warriors. I do not understand this.
