You can see info about the name here:

And yeah, it was an obscure name until the movie "Splash", which apparently explains its popularity (ick). It seems pretty common to give girls the surnames of U.S. Presidents though. It addition to Madison, there are lots of girls named Kennedy, Carter, and Reagan.
Yeah, it has the word "SON" in the name, so what? I know a girl named Addison, which I believe is also much more common for females to have that name. Wladyslaw is a purely male name, too. It's like the old joke where most female problems have the word "MEN" in them, like menstrual cramps and menopause.
On a related note, I am convinced the SJW agenda is why we keep seeing female protagonists on TV with traditionally male names, like Michael Burnham on Star Trek, and Bill Potts on Doctor Who. They could have easily given them feminine forms of that name, like Michele Burnham and Billie Potts.
“Yeah, it has the word “SON” in the name, so what? “
Because it means either/or “son of Maud” or “Son of Matthew”. A girl can’t be someone’s son unless her name is Chaz Bono.

I would surmise it was NEVER/almost never used a girl’s name prior to the movie. While you can see it was rarely used a male name, last registering in 1952.
Ironically, today’s name of the day is “Reagan”

It first registers in 1975, very slightly, doesn’t take off till the 90’s.
Here’s Addison (Which means “Son of Adam”)

Kennedy doesn’t trend till the 90s.
“Carter” (WTF!!!!!!!!) not till very recently, I was unware girls were being named Carter. How about Hoover? ;-)

“Splash” may be responsible for the entire trend, which is an amazing legacy for a forgettable movie.
You can check UK/Canada/Aus/NZ too but that data doesn’t go back so far.
The best name site btw.
As for Michael Burnham, fag Bryan Fuller has a thing giving his female protagonists male names.
Michael is not unprecedented, Miss Michael Learned being the only real one I know of.

You can see it register slightly for girls starting in 1938.
