Outside of “The Dick Van Dyke Show”, I mainly remember him for his small role in Mel Brook’ “Silent Movie”.
Dick Van Dyke trivia, the character “Buddy Surell” [sp?] played by Morey Amsterdam was supposed to be based on the real-life Mel Brooks, who would say whatever occurred to him no matter how inappropriate.
Funny man who lived a long life, laughter the best medicine.
In the pilot for what would become DVD, Reiner played the comedy writer main character. He had the good sense and humility to rework the concept bringing in Dick Van Dyke as the main character.
I had thought Carl Reiner had died YEARS ago.
98? Kinda remarkable, at that.
He did have a bit part on “Two and a Half Men” a few years back, but that is the last I recollect of him in any acting part.
Carl Reiner starred as Walt Whitaker in “The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming.” In addition to the Russians, his nemesis was his unimpressed 8-year old son.
