Comedy Legend, Liberal and father of the even more Liberal Rob “Meathead” Reiner passes away at 98.

...

I don’t recall him running his mouth the way his son does.

Not to get into a BIG thing about BLM, there are a few areas that people should think about:

1. There is a HUGE difference between the original message of BLM and the “organization.” The organization is a front for the DNC. When monies are donated to the organization, they are funneled into DNC “causes.” Almost none of that money gets to any frontline project helping black youth or “at risk” persons.

2. The concept behind the message of BLM is not that black lives matter MORE than anyone else. They matter “as much” as anyone else.

The movement is about more than black men getting killed by police. It is about black people being singled out when there is no obvious reason for it. Now, you might think that is not true—and I understand that.

My eyes were opened after talking to several black MDs about their experiences. These are men who are highly educated and who earn more than most people. And they are still getting hassled for being in the “rich” part of town, in “fancy cars”, and for watching kids play sports—their kids—at the white schools.

These men sat and told me stories, one after another, that made my skin crawl.

They were not asking for “more rights” or “better treatment.” They were asking for the same treatment and the same rights.

Of course, the BLM movement on TV—the anger and the riots—are not nearly as articulate as these men were. And admittedly, the black movements always use the worst branding and slogans—which are designed to incite and anger.

But when you take a few minutes to listen to what they say, and how they live their lives after reaching the “American Dream” you might have a better understanding.

I’m not a BLM shirt wearing white guy. I am not condoning violence or tearing anything down. I admit to moving out of my home town because the violence and schools pretty much destroyed the place of my childhood experience. That would be considered white flight. I am not ashamed of that.

But, when this crap is happening in my high net worth community to people who have more than “played the game” to get here—I think that is not fair.

All politics are local.

Carl was indeed a comedy legend and a great talent, but if you think the apple has more rot than the tree you are mistaken. The biggest difference between Carl and his son is that Carl was less vocal about his views until later in life when he was less concerned about his public image.

Yup. I did allude to Carl being a big Lib when I posted this. I don’t think I knew that though until he was on the high side of 80. You are right that he kept his mouth shut until he no longer feared being impacted.

No that is not true. Just calling it as it is. Doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate his work. I watch “30 Rock”, don’t care for Tina Fey or Alec Baldwin’s politics either but do like the show.

Unfortunately almost everything now has become politicized, sports, entertainment, you name it. No way to get away from it.

There was a recent anti Trump tweet that would have done his son proud.

If Meathead were not “BORN INTO PRIVILEGE” he would be NOBODY!

His Dad's name certainly opened some doors but Rob Reiner has some talent. Sure he's an unabashed radical pinko whose political views are complete fecal matter but that alone doesn't prevent him from having some talent. He directed some fine movies, This is Spinal Tap, When Harry Met Sally, A Few Good Men, The Princess Bride, Stand by Me... Hasn't done anything good in awhile IMO but he had a really nice run for a decade or so during the 1980s and 1990s.

The straight man/interviewer for the 2000 year old man. Some of the best comedy ever recorded imho. But of course it was almost all Mel Brooks and it was hilarious. Still listen to it from time to time.

Alan Arkin is a super nice *regular* guy.

I just love that movie. Saw it again about 2 weeks ago. Carl Reiner, Jonathan Winters, Brian Keith, etc. were all in their prime.

#6 Some BLM member would knock both out if given a chance just like the recent attacks against a 92 old women and a 70+ women.

Brooks and Reiner are Jewish, and there is strong anti-Semitism in BLM.

Would have been a great Pic if there was a Black Hooker in between them in that Bed.

That is something I would expect from two great comedic minds.

“How can you forgive those two, their just as bad as Lear.”

First, I think you mean “they’re.”

My impression has always been that Lear’s comedy was often politically preachy. I never picked up quite the same vibe from Reiner and Brooks.

At least that’s my perception — if you don’t agree, that’s fine, thanks for responding to my post.

Brooks could be politically incorrect by today’s standards. I loved the Jewish Indians from “Blazing Saddles” along with the scene where Cleavon Little takes himself hostage at gunpoint.

As for Reiner, “The Dick Van Dyke Show” would be legacy enough for any comedy writer, even without all his other accomplishments. The relatively new medium of television poking gentle fun at itself — it’s one of those concepts that seems so simple, so obvious that we forget what a trailblazer it was at the time.

So, congratulations on a life well lived, Carl Reiner. And we forgive you for Meathead.

Politically he and his son, indistinguishable. Ultimately both are/were entertainment industry nitwits and partisan shills. Good riddance.
