or install cow catchers on your front bumper

Hey, just got an idea...install 3 chainsaws on the front bumper with some kind of starting system to fire them up. Mount them vertically where they don't stick out too far. Maybe protesters would not get right up on front of the vehicle....

Why not make it illegal to use violence, rioting, assault, arson, looting, deliberately blocking traffic and access, etc., to pursue political objectives. We could call it “terrorism”... The Democrats call it “campaigning”.

Ohio Revised Code

2905.01 Kidnapping.

(A) No person, by force, threat, or deception, or, in the case of a victim under the age of thirteen or mentally incompetent, by any means, shall remove another from the place where the other person is found or restrain the liberty of the other person, for any of the following purposes:

(1) To hold for ransom, or as a shield or hostage;

(2) To facilitate the commission of any felony or flight thereafter;

(3) To terrorize, or to inflict serious physical harm on the victim or another;

(4) To engage in sexual activity, as defined in section 2907.01 of the Revised Code, with the victim against the victim's will;

(5) To hinder, impede, or obstruct a function of government, or to force any action or concession on the part of governmental authority;

(6) To hold in a condition of involuntary servitude.

(B) No person, by force, threat, or deception, or, in the case of a victim under the age of thirteen or mentally incompetent, by any means, shall knowingly do any of the following, under circumstances that create a substantial risk of serious physical harm to the victim or, in the case of a minor victim, under circumstances that either create a substantial risk of serious physical harm to the victim or cause physical harm to the victim:

(1) Remove another from the place where the other person is found;

(2) Restrain another of the other person's liberty.

(Emphasis added.)

Should become national law right now.

Not quite. It’s more complicated than that. Someone might need to stop a vehicle to stop an innocent victim from being killed or to stop a criminal from getting away. Try this instead.

A law needs to be passed to specifically stop protesters or criminals from stopping anyone from legally going wherever they want to go in vehicles, on foot or by any means of transportation.

Easier to make a crime of assault to touch car with a driver behind the wheel. That can trigger a ‘fear for life’ and allow greater charges.

In my neighborhood the kids all shout “CAR!!” and scurry to the side.

Well, most of the kids. One kid thought he was too cool. I got close so he had to dodge my mirror, then I stopped. “You know, there’s lots of folks that don’t pay as much attention to their driving as I do. You should be more careful.”

He’s fine now. Or maybe it WAS one of the other neighbors that drives a bit too fast down our cul-de-sac.

So if I press the walk button to cross the street I’m now a felon?
= = =

I’ll bet you pressed it more than once.

Guilty.

This needs to be carefully written. Boxing in and slowly stopping a very drunk driver is a common tactic that saves lives, for example.

Kidnapping is not the charge, but false imprisonment might apply.

Unions do it every single day on picket lines.

Good luck getting that passed.

“Kidnap” is already a Fed offense... right?

We used to play Greek dodge in the street.

Playing in the street isn’t the problem....though indeed they should give right of way to the vehicle.

My biggest problem is the adults plant some device that now make it seem an invitation to all kids to play any time they want. Like it’s a public playground. BB hoop or lacrosse goal, etc.

“ If on the federal road system it is already a crime to block traffic.”

Yep. That’s interstate commerce.

Short of expanding TSA (horrible idea) to patrol the interstates and US system not much the feds can do besides more empty threats of “withholding fed funds”.

Would need to add a few more exclusions:

Stopping a vehicle on private property by the property owner.
Stopping a vehicle as part of an authorized traffic control device or sign

Should be a state law, not federal.

Should create a “driver safety” exclusion for those that feel threatened so that they can drive away or through the road block.

For a wiseguy-type reply, a < /sarc > tag would have been appropriate. Been there, done them, looked stupid.

You and my 97 year old mother. There oughta be a law against it. No you as the driver of your vehicle have the right to protect yourself and your property as you go about your business. Its your responsibility to defend yourself not the cops. It already is against most local statutes to impede the roadways and the cops do nothing now. Making it a federal law will change nothing. Honk your horn, press gently on the gas and move forward until you are clear of the crowd. Then get out and remove any bodies that have become wedged in the undercarriage and go about your day. 😆
