My Passport application was submitted about FOUR MONTHS AGO. They haven't even had the courtesy to return my old Passport.

That’s all right, I appealed an IRS decision assessing me a late penalty (it actually wasn’t late), and it has disappeared into a black hole and I haven’t heard anything for months. When I tried to call them I got a a recording saying that because of COVID staffing shortages they could not answer phone calls. Then I got a computer generated letter saying they had not been able to look at my appeal and therefore were unilaterally extending the supposed mandatory deadline for response, and that was it. Since I never paid the penalty because I appealed, I don’t care if they sit on it forever.

The state department website says that they processed about 150,000 passports this week and about 30,000 past week. So it looks like they're ramping up.
