The Garden State is the least patriotic state in the US, according to a new ranking released Monday by financial advice Web site WalletHub.com.

Measuring 13 metrics on military and civic engagement — including veteran residents per capita, percentage of adults who voted in the 2016 presidential election and rates of volunteerism — the study ranked Jersey dead last among the 50 states.

A survey is such as this is really meaningless..

We can rank order all 50 states on issues such as veterans population, and voter turnout in elections, but then we have to ask, are these criteria really the most important factors in patriotism?

Well, if Texas is the 47th least patriotic state, then it would be the third most patriotic state. I can buy that. What am I missing?

Military service certainly would be. It's difficult to gauge that though because somebody can spend 15 years in a reserve component and not be considered a veteran. Likewise, volunteering is really subjective; what if they volunteer for a group that hates the country.

Personally the best typology report I've read was this one prepared by Pew: https://www.people-press.org/2005/05/10/profiles-of-the-typology-groups/ I think it reflects my own experience dealing with many types of people.

Instead of using “the number of people who voted in 2016”, use “the number of people who voted for DemocRats” and subtract 1 point for every 5,000 people who vote Rat and add 1 point for every 5,000 who voted GOP.

Nope. The most patriotic state/counties/places are the ones which vote the highest % for the GOP. For those that vote overwhelmingly for the party of Satan, Demonrat, are the LEAST patriotic. I’m looking at Seattle, San Francisco, D.C., NYC (excluding Staten Island), Boston, Minneapolis, et al.

Hawaii and Vermont are the least two patriotic states, both having voted just 30% for President Trump.

That’s the way I read it, too! Texas ranks 3rd MOST patriotic. Also, the measure of Vets/capita would favor States with small populations.

I will say though, if you are from Texas, and you’re travelling abroad, when asked where you’re from. 99% of Texans will say “Texas” rather than the “US”.
