Why wouldn’t it. The way the tracking is going, state, county, city, zip code, national, regional, global. Pretty much any number will have been tied to new cases at some level.

I just used 312, 708, 847, 815, 217 (all Illinois phone area codes) with "new cases" after them and each one came up with references for number of google cases.

Just tried "999 new cases" on DDG and got headlines of "999 new cases confirmed" from AJC.com, mlive.com, grandhaventribune.com, theoaklandpress.com...
All reporting 999 new cases of CV-19. Typing in a different number gives a search list from anywhere from March through May...
