I had some peas I planted last year that were three years old and they sprouted fine.
This morning I got a call from a very good friend.
He has been a square foot gardener for many years.
When I visit his house I marvel the many types of vegetables and plants he grows.
Since I am with my wife(Alzheimers) 24/7, and stay mostly at home now, not doing fishing charters anymore, he has volunteered to come to my house Tuesday, and set up a square foot garden for me of any size and shape. He says he has all the equipment ,soil, seeds etc. and will even plant it for me, if I want. No charge involved.
I think I will start off with a modest 4x4 or 2x8' vegetable garden.
No tomato plants, since my neighbors, and friends bring me more tomatoes than I can eat.
Who knows I might just go down to the nearby shore and get some seaweed for fertilizer. I will check with my fiend on how best to make things work.

My sister’s husband has Alzheimers who she cares for. Thank God she has two caring sons and a couple of grandsons who relieve her. She lives near Fresno Ca and I live in Eureka Ca

Holy Cow! I’ve had 5 inches of rain in the last ~ hour...
Trees down, see garden underwater, plants washing away...
Going to try and replant the ones that are washed away...

Oh, that’s so sad! I hope you can salvage some things!
We’ve had PLENTY of rain now. If it stops raining, I will no longer complain about having to drag the hose around to water. Promise!
Things in my garden are really lagging. I’m just getting some zukes, and the peas were a total disaster because we went straight to HOT for a few weeks in early June. Most of the lettuce has been used or is starting to bolt.
I do have tomatoes and peppers on, but things just seem to be taking for-EVER this season for some reason.
I guess that Solar Minimum is to blame, more than anything. Less sun spots, less of the good rays hitting my garden? I’m still getting a nice (farmer’s) tan though, LOL!
Once things dry out a bit, I’m going to hop on my mower. I’ve got it down to a 2-hour job now, and I find it relaxing and it gives me time to THINK about important ‘stuff.’ ;)
A row of peppers and a row of tomatoes washed down against the deer fence - I carefully replanted and tied them up to stakes. They look pitiful covered in mud/dirt...

I mowed today, weeded my new rose beds around the greenhouse, tied up my grape vines and weeded them, somewhat.
The dogs had fun dismantling everything in the greenhouse while chasing a Chipmunk, and I harvested two of the first (of way too many!) zucchini and some sugar snap peas to incorporate into supper. I need to do some spot seeding int he Bean Patch. Poor germination on my purple podded beans, and the Saychelles green pole beans. No idea why; no evidence of digging or rabbit chewing.
My two young cherry trees (North Star) are loaded with fruit, as is my plum (Mt. Royal) tree. Hoping to beat the birds and critters to them. After a Raccoon Raid on the strawberry patch last weekend, I should be able to harvest a pint or so, tomorrow. My big Plott Hound, Oneida, has been allowed to sleep on the porch to keep an eye out for Masked Bandits - and it’s been working.

As of 5 PM today I am a square foot gardener.
Tomorrow I will get marigold and lettuce to finish off the 4x4 garden.
I will be growing egg plant, lettuce, radishes, cucumbers, and my friend insisted I plant a few different tomato plants and supplied them, and built a heavy string trellis for them. -tom

Today I picked and ate my first pea pod of the season!!!
It tasted like sugar and springtime!
Hopefully to be followed by many more, although I plan on letting a lot of them go to seed.
I made stir fry with my snap peas tonight. Been using them for weeks now.
