The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.
This thread is non-political respite. No matter what, you wont be flamed, and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go - and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to our New & Improved Ping List.
NOTE: This is a once a week Ping List. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!
Hi all. I finally have the rest of the garden planted, almost one month late. And I am managing to keep up with the weeds. Lettuce is recovering from more than a few rabbit feasts. Broccoli probably won’t. Everything else is doing great. My last iris bloom is out there. Looking forward to hearing everyone’s news.
We’re closing in on a dozen big green peppers.
Just right to stuff and freeze for the coming winter.
Last year’s jalapeños lasted until a week ago.
Does buying things at the farmers market qualify as gardening if Im on my way to the shooting range?
Good Morning!
My herbs are doing GREAT!
Veggies...not so much.
I have found that plastic milk crates turned upside down over the lettuce works great at keeping vermin away.
Placing a brick on top helps, too.
The Weekly Garden Thread is my respite from the world.
It is what I look to daily for moments of peace and beauty whennI cannot actually be out wirking in or enjoying my garden.
I don’t know of their is an official ruling on your question.....but what did you go shooting with (not counting your farmer’s market purchases)
wow thanks a great idea. the hose has worked well until one night I forgot to lay it out. Crates would be easier.
LOL I see that as a harvest in a way.
I’m happy to report that I am still alive...
Have some bush bean seeds left over from last year; planted a lot of them, not many sprouted.
Wasn’t sure if they had gone bad, or I had planted/watered them poorly, so I planted a lot more, about 2” apart, in rows roughly 12” apart.
Most of them sprouted.
The directions on the envelope say the rows should be 18-30” apart, and thinned to 6” apart in each row.
This seems a bit sparse; it would leave a lot of sunlight uncaptured.
Anyone have any thoughts on a more appropriate plant spacing?
LOL! As long as you don’t use the vegetables for target practice, we’ll give you a pass. ;)
Any day above the grass is a good one, Tubey! :)
Garden update: We haven’t killed any of the plants yet!!!! Proud! LOL
Too soon for a harvest of anything we have planted yet. Still have hope!
