How do you put in a claim for the gold? Couldn’t anyone say they misplaced a gold stash?

If the gold belonged to someone involved in some sort of criminal activity, they might be inclined to let it go, and write it off as a cost of doing business. Otherwise the alternative could be to be in legal trouble for the criminal activity for which the gold was related to.

How do you put in a claim for the gold? Couldn’t anyone say they misplaced a gold stash? Sure. And anyone that does will be presumed to be the one who left them, at least until proven otherwise. Even if multiple people claim them, same treatement. And all of them will be presumed to be a criminal and subjected to a massive proctology exam looking into every aspect of their lives and finances.
