Ukrainian officials on Saturday said they were offered $5 million in bribes to end a probe into energy company Burisma's founder, but said there was no connection to former board member Hunter Biden whose father is running for the U.S. presidency.
The Ukrainian company was thrust into the global spotlight last year in the impeachment inquiry into whether U.S. President Donald Trump improperly pressured Kiev into opening a case against his rival for the November election race.
Trump wants an investigation into the Democrats' 2020 candidate, former Vice President Joe Biden, and his son.
Artem Sytnyk, head of Ukraine's national anti-corruption bureau (NABU), said three people had been detained, including one current and former tax official, over the bribe offer.
The money was the largest cash bribe ever seized in the country, NABU said. It was put on display during a press briefing, brought by masked men in see-through plastic bags.
Burisma said in a statement it had nothing to do with the matter. It did not respond to a request for comment from the company's founder Mykola Zlochevsky, a former ecology minister now living abroad.
"Let's put an end to this once and for all. Biden Jr. and Biden Sr. do not appear in this particular proceeding," Nazar Kholodnytsky, head of anti-corruption investigations at the prosecution service, told Saturday's briefing.

How about the video of Gropin' Joe withholding loot? Any opinion, Artem?
And H->! never violated the security laws.
This was a separate avenue they used in addition to Biden’s threat to withhold aid.
Ukraine busts $6M bribe scheme for gas company that hired Hunter Biden

Someone has been bribing the bribe investigators.
The Bidens probably weren’t involved with this particular bribe attempt, which only occurred recently.
But it does show that Burisma is a company perfectly willing to ignore the law, and to bribe whomever it needs to, to get what it wants.
Such as, for example, Joe Biden.
Very professional job of disinformation. Notice there were no dates or specifics discussed at all in the article. Burisma was initially being investigated for money laundering by British banks before Hunter was even hired. The cases in the UK were dropped when Ukrainian officials were bribed to withhold bank records needed by the UK courts to prosecute the case.
The prosecutors involved were fired at the time Poroshekno took over as President and he brought in Viktor Shokin. Years later Shokin was investigating an entirely different money laundering transaction by Burisma after Hunter had been put on the board that named Hunter Biden and Devon Archer as recipients. This was what Biden was concerned about when he bribed Poroshenko to fire Shokin to protect Burisma where his son was paid to gain his father’s influence.
Nice try but their obvious attempt to muddy the already murky Ukrainian connection just shows how evil these people are and how easily they can manipulate the press to do their bidding.
So, there must be a bunch of see-through bags laying around somewhere containing the other 995,000,000 dollars.
Hunter has never been anything more than a puppet.
Who paid the bribe??
this is just one facet of the investigation. Joe was very explicit about his little tit for tat...and laughed his a** off during the interview where he explained how he got rid of the prosecutor...
If hes so innocent where is Hunter anyway? Figure hed be right by Joes side
What exactly is Biden getting paid for?
What does Hunter do to earn such a great salary?
Hunter Biden was STILL ON THE BOARD after this was made public last year.
Was he fired? Did he resign? When did he stop getting paid?
