Breaking News: Republican senators def Donald Trump by voting to strip Confederate generals' names from Army bases — despite White House threatening a veto

Republican senators rebelled against Donald Trump late Wednesday by voting to tell the Army to rename bases named after Confederate generals within the next three years.

The Armed Services Committee, whose members include Trump ultra-loyalist Tom Cotton, voted behind closed doors for the move, Roll Call first reported.

The voice vote was on an amendment to the annual Pentagon policy bill — the Defense Authorization Act — which was put forward by Sen. Elizabeth Warren, the Massachusetts Democrat and former presidential candidate.

It came hours after Donald Trump tweeted furiously that he will “not even consider” renaming Forts Bragg, Hood, Lee and others.

The move puts the Republican senators on a collision course with Trump, who White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany suggested would veto any legislation which renamed the bases. …

Donald Trump is a Scots-German from New York City whose ancestors came to the US well after the Civil War.

Never give an inch to tyrants. Make no mistake, these leftists are tyrannical to the core. Spineless Republicans always think that they can make a political calculation and throw a bone to the yapping dogs and make them go away. However, that never works. It just makes the dogs hungry for more.

If anyone thinks accommodating this insanity won’t quickly lead to demands to remove the names of Washington, Jefferson, and others from everything, as well as demolishing any statue or other monument related to them, they are just fooling themselves. And what do you think the leftists will demand be the new names of these military bases? I guarantee the only acceptable names will be “Obama”, “King”, “Cummings”, etc.

We’ve all talked for years about losing the country, usually with respect to the latest absurdity from the Left, but now we are truly at a crossroads. There is only one choice before us at this point: Either surrender and let the Left finally complete its destruction of the United States, or destroy them (and I don’t mean politically or metaphorically). They are not persuadable or reformable, and just like the Terminator they will never, ever stop. I really think it’s time for an organized effort (not vigilantism), similar to 1776. We need true statesmen as leaders, who also have the guts to do what is right, no matter the cost. And then we need to issue an ultimatum, just as was done with King George, but in this case supporting Trump and any other remaining American patriots in government. Either stop this crap right now, using any means necessary, or we the People will do it, and we won’t be nearly so merciful.

“The names were part of a reconciliation effort when the north defeated the south, and we became one nation again.”

That’s right.

So we’re all the monuments. It was letting the sore loser traitors feel better about themselves.

I have no problem with taking the names of every confederate traitor off a base or ship, but not because of the current crap or being forced by communists.

Wait until a year or so. Drop all names. Give them all numbers. Do the same for anything else named by the government. Numbers only...buildings, bridges, highways and so forth. Only weirdo perpetually-confused numerologists will then complain.

That is the most petty, childish, BS. I would think GOP Senators would want to be a mile from this cr*9.

Voice vote. Unrecorded. What a craven bowing down to racism and lies

Are we going to find out exactly which Republicans had no problem with changing the names of the forts? This makes me sick. They will give away our entire country just the way the Marxist Commies have stolen it.. piece by piece. Fighting for America will soon be considered a Hate crime.

The Dems and MSM are manufacturing issues like statues and the naming of military installations to divide and incite violence.

Convenient. Maybe they can rename Washington after Denzel Washington and thus keep the name.

We have the Jefferson Monument in DC and Jefferson helped found William and Mary. The capital of Missouri is Jefferson City.

Because somehow the historic names of forts is related to George Floyd?

Total insanity and cowardice

And because we have a President that won’t give in to this insanity, he WILL veto it. I hope this SILENT majority people have been talking about make themselves known in November. Seems the loony left is trying a new stunt every day to try and destroy this country before (Please God) they’re completely run out of office.......

The College of William and Mary was founded in 1683 (the second oldest institution of higher education in the British colonies). Jefferson was born in 1743.

Thomas Jefferson helped found the University of Virginia--one of the three things he wanted to be remembered for was as "the father of the University of Virginia."

We are witnessing the American version of the Chinese Cultural Revolution. It has little to do with generals and Columbus and more to do with the power of the mob to get concessions over small things, which legitimizes their grievances and allows them to demand more and more. Why now? The timing is not a coincidence.
