HughesNet Satellite Internet,One Of The Worst Decisions I've Made Lately
June 11, 2020

HughesNet Satellite Internet was sold to me as 10 times faster than DSL service.
Well ... that's not what I've experienced in the last month since I switched from DSL to Satellite Internet.
I tried to watch a HBO movie and it took me three days to finally get the it, and then only in the early morning hours.
HughesNet Satellite Service's excuse ... "With so many people at home due to the Covid-19 situation, our system is overloaded."
I signed up for a two year contract with both internet and phone service, and in less than a month I've already asked what it would cost to terminate my service.
$620.00 is the quote that I was given to get out of my contract, and my monthly bill is roughly $110.0 a month.
When you try to communicate with HughesNet Customer Service, on average I had to wait over one hour to get a live person.
Bottom line ... AVOID HUGHESNET SATELLITE SERVICE AT ALL COST !
It's horrible.

Just wait until you break over your download threshold and see how much they throttle you. You might as well be on dial up. Don’t even dare to watch a few youtube videos or you get throttled for the remainder of the month during peak hours.

The USA is the only industrialized country that has not extended high speed fiber network out to the exoburbs and rural areas. Yeah were a capitalist country but jeez....
You can get better access to the internet in Kenya than in huge parts of the USA.

DSL is usually adequate. Why did you switch?

I wouldn't know about that.
I've never been to Obama's place of birth.

The real bottom line on this whole discussion...if one wants non-urban lifestyle living, then this is also part of the acceptance, you wont have first or second class internet or TV programming. In Europe and other developed countries they have fibre and high speed internet everywhere.

YouTube TV is the best deal Ive seen. $50/month, up to 6 devices, unlimited dvr, my daughter has two of the devices at her home. No OAN but you get the half dozen or so networks worth watching and another hundred channels of crap, just like with other providers.

I have the HughesNet internet too. It’s OK to surf the net, but I can’t watch any video. It just keeps buffering constantly.

If anyone uses ROKU, do NOT buy their inexpensive ROKU Express. They hide the specs but it’s 2.4 Ghz only, with no ethernet port and it’s very slow.

I can vouch that in Germany...maybe in the urbanized areas, but roughly one-quarter of the country does not have high-speed connectivity. It’s been a sore topic with a fair number of people. I’m lucky and live in the shadow of such an urbanized area.
The phone company is not that interested in fixing the rest, and the government is going to have to put down revenue to resolve this (bringing fiber to the rural regions).

Those are still being made, but newer ones have faster processors with more cores and they support the ax WiFi standard.
Whats nice is you can get any of those as refurbished from NewEgg or Amazon at various times. I bought mine that way for well under half the normal price.

[[That’s what I’d say. But their excuse is valid.]]
Yep it’s valid- but they should be offering refunds or reduced price since they can’t deliver right now- Time Warner at least gives discounts when their service is interrupted or not up to par- they may give ‘ months of HBO’ or something liek that if the person prefers instead o0f discount on next bill-

All satellite internet services suck. I had Exede for 2 years. Also had to put up with DirecTV via satellite.
Finally my electric coop came out with high speed fiber optic. Thank God.
I dumped Exede and DirecTV and am saving $150 per month. With fast wifi.
