Not the sort of help we need, thanks. A free country has no need to stipulate special penalties for “thought crimes”.

I don’t care if it’s a Trump supporter or a drug addled Democrat who is being attacked, it’s the attack that’s a crime.

The attack is the crime, but basing it on an attempt to suppress free speech, the right to free assembly, or in order to target a whole ethnic or racial group Is actually a separate violation in itself.

“Just” assaulting somebody to rob them or because it’s a neighbor you don’t like,,etc., is a different thing from assaulting sometime to intimidate them and stop them from speaking, voting, or exercising any other constitutional right.

Wait till you get assaulted trying to go to the polls this November.

So yes, I think this man is doing the right thing.

Except there already exist "hate crime" stipulations. So he's elevating the issue by making it about fairness. Right now some people are more equal than others, so he's trying to make it an issue within the Democratic party about leveling the playing field.
