In the wake of ongoing global protests against systemic racism and police brutality, Paramount Network has shelved Cops upcoming season premiere, TVLine has confirmed.
The long-running docuseries was slated to return for Season 33 on Monday, June 8 at 10/9c. Per the cablers schedule, Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II will instead air from 8 pm to 1 am that night. A rep for Paramount Network tells TVLine there are currently no plans to run any new Cops episodes in the future.
Additionally, A&E Network has opted not to air new episodes of Live PD on June 5 and 6 in light of recent events. Theres no word on when the shows fourth season will resume; episodes of Live Rescue, a Live PD spinoff that centers on firefighters, EMTs and paramedics, will air this weekend instead.
Out of respect for the families of George Floyd and others who have lost their lives, in consultation with the departments we follow, and in consideration for the safety of all involved, we have made the decision not to broadcast Live PD this weekend, A&E Network said in a statement to our sister site Variety, who broke the news.
The scheduling moves come almost two weeks after the May 25 murder of George Floyd, an unarmed Black man in Minneapolis who died after police officer Derek Chauvin held his knee on Floyds neck for more than eight minutes while arresting him. Chauvin has since been charged with both second-degree and third-degree murder (as well as second-degree manslaughter), while the three officers who watched Floyds arrest take place Tou Thao, Thomas Lane and J. Alexander Kueng have been charged with aiding and abetting murder.
Floyds death has sparked a wave of passionate protests around the world which, in many cities, have prompted additional incidents of police violence. Cops, which has been on the air since 1989, follows city police officers and sheriffs deputies during their patrols, with many segments ending in on-camera arrests. The show initially aired on Fox through 2013, when it moved to Paramount Network (formerly known as Spike TV). Live PD, which follows cops on patrol in real time, debuted on A&E Network in 2016 and was picked up for an additional 160 episodes earlier this year.
Mine too, until the scamdemic turned it into a social distancing enforcement show.
Is that because of the numerous Chicago weekend slaughter threads published each week?
Ive frequently watched Live PD. From watching that show I know that its not unusual for suspects to exclaim I cant breath. Hope its not cancelled; just suspended for an episode or two.
Thats the look of job envy! ;-)
Chicago’s “death” web site is the best known, but I’m sure there are others. It isn’t unusual to read my local newspaper and see statistics year over year on how many murders have been committed in U.S. cities.
She loves people and would kiss a criminal. LOL Sweetest dog I have ever had.
This was probably mid-90s ish. It was almost 100% whites being arrested on the show. I noticed it like many others. Not soon thereafter, they came clean for purposely not airing minority interactions. We all felt it was not to ‘offend’ them.
I wish I could find a reference for this. I looked...nothing.
I don't agree. Although COPS is all re-runs now, black busts go back just a couple years.
More like a leap to the left :/
Plaza
"I stopped watching Cops yrs ago when they admitted editing out black criminal arrests."
That's weird. As recent as a months back, we saw blacks being busted.
I also remember that.. I think it was one of the show's producers that admitted to that...

Heres something that might hold you over :o) - play with sound up/on
The producers of Cops are in charge....many years ago they were filming in the Boston area and chose a suburb with very little crime. Big bore.
Not anymore. It slightly tweeked the format when going HD and older shows reruned as Cops Reloded and were formatted into HD. Looks like the show was pulled off tv.
“I have no doubts Bammy is up to his neck within the deep state. And very possibly the shot caller to destabilize this society.”
I believe you are correct—he has a “nonprofit” with H.Q. in D.C. that is doing exactly that & might be fun to infiltrate.
A couple of weeks ago, a seemingly benign “survey” appeared online asking respondents to rate our views on “Obama’s legacy.”
The “survey” also asked for donations to an unnamed group claiming to support Obama’s “legacy.”
Scrolling further down, the wording became less benign.
There was an astonishingly blatant statement —’we’ve begun an agressive, multi-faceted campaign to damage Trump and his re-election chances. Do you support these early efforts?”
The wording “aggressive, multi-faceted* campaign to *damage* Trump” seems to describe what’s happening in the streets, does it not?
It doesn’t sound like fundraising for townhall meetings.
