Inspired by global protests at the death of unarmed black American George Floyd, some 30,000 people in Belgium have signed two petitions to remove statues of the country’s colonial-era King Leopold II, whose troops decimated Congo in the late 1800s. The online petitions, one of which was started by a 14-year-old boy on photo-sharing app Instagram, demand the removal of the monuments across Brussels and a bust in the city of Halle. “We are minors and do not wish to reveal our identities. This is why we are looking for an organisation ... to represent us,” the 14-year-old told Reuters, giving his name as Noah.

This guy was a Jekyll-Hyde character. He was a great liberal reformer domestically. But he founded and personally owned the Congo Free State where the natives were brutalized. The story "Heart of Darkness" was based on the Congo Free State.

We should be proud of the fact that our black folk got them to hate themselves.

The unfortunate thing is that what he did in the Congo was beyond horrific - it was Auschwitz style horror.

People can say “Oh Africans do that to other Africans” — but the horrifying thing about Leopold and the Nazis is that these were people from highly civilized, highly cultured countries doing this - if the highly civilized could do that, all of us have these beast within

Leopold was villified for a long time - he’s not the blood ancestor of any of the later kings - his nephew inherited.

This is not hating themselves - it wasn’t the Belgian government that massacred people in the Congo, it was Leopold’s goons

Perhaps they could erect statues of African kings who sold captives into slavery.

Why do the words, “How Dare You!” Ring in my ears when I read about this self righteous 14 year old?

Isn’t it about time to tear down those statues to Pharaoh?

The Coliseum in Rome is a site of genocide and bloodbath. Tear it down. Inconsiderate people take wedding photos outside in the name of "romance".

Listen to the yell of Leopold’s ghost,
Burning in Hell for his hand-maimed host.
Hear how the demons chuckle and yell,
Cutting his hands off, down in Hell.
