A leading archeologist tweeted instructions on how to safely topple an obelisk as George Floyd protestors in her town toppled a Confederate statue during a demonstration that escalated into unrest. University of Alabama at Birmingham archeologist Sarah Parcak took to Twitter Sunday evening offering details on how to bring an obelisk down as demonstrators in the city's Linn Park defaced a Confederate monument and tore down a statue of Confederate Naval captain Charles Linn Sunday night. A day earlier, protestors in Nashville, Tennessee, toppled a statue of Edward Carmac, a former politician and newspaper publisher who wrote editorials expressing racist views.

I can’t believe how the Democrat rioters defaced so many historical statues in D.C. Shameful, it must stop cold.

My point is that the Democrats use the same tactics to achieve their same goals now as they did then. The Republicans have never done any of this. The democrats have successfully co-opted the label of liberal while rejecting the actual philosophy of classical liberalism and replacing it with socialism.

The mantra that the parties have switched positions is just another one of many progressive lies.

Wow, it is fact the Democrats of the 19th century were the conservatives of their time and the Republicans were the liberals. That is just a FACT.

"When I drove through West Virginia, I saw a chain of gas stations that carried Senator Byrd’s nickname — Sheetz."

LOL - nicely played. Sheetz is actually a family surname and started their chain of stores in Altoona, PA. Actually one of the better chains of gas and convenience stores going, at least in PA, WV, VA, MD and maybe a few other states. They had touch screen ordering of foods way back in the 90s, decent prices, and I've never been in one store that wasn't well-maintained with clean, working bathrooms.

Oh I stopped at one of their stores to fill up my gas tank, in Hancock, MD. I liked the place, but wondered about the name. I have heard from another FR thread that in Pennsylvania, Sheetz is in fierce competition with Wawa, another store with a strange name.

Yes, Sheetz is anchored in Western PA, WaWa is out east. The respective fan bases pretty much mirrors those of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles.

So the conservative philosophy call for enslavement and oppression? That is the dims argument.

The underlying philosophies of the two parties are the same now as they were then. Only the labels have changed.

You CANNOT judge the people of the 19th century, especially with regards to race, by the standards of the 21st century Americans. If you do that then you will get a very distorted view of history.

In the 19th century slavery was codified in the Constitution. Almost all whites in the USA at the time thought blacks were inferior and slavery was justified. Even Lincoln thought that but changed his view on enslavement but not black inferiority. This was the status quo, the norm then. Conservatives preserve the status quo.

I don’t judge people of the past by today’s standards and at no point did I say that.

Exactly how do you believe that the philosophies have switched between the two parties? The Democrats still used the KKK up through the the sixties. At some point they realized this was no longer viable and switched from avowed racial supremacy to identity politics to achieve the same goal. Their own political power.

They have always been a political party built on having a group of people totally dependent on them. True then, true now. These people are made to believe that they can never achieve anything without Democrat oversight.

The Republicans have always been the antithesis of this, at least officially. Read the past party platforms, review past administrations and see how they actually governed versus their rhetoric.

The parties switching sides is a lie started by the Democrats to paint Republicans as the racist party. This was done to destroy Nixon. Sort of like today, where they are making every accusation possible to destroy Trump.
