After releasing the golden master to developers earlier this week, Apple is releasing iOS 13.5 to the general public today. The update brings quite a few changes and new features prompted by COVID-19, including the Exposure Notification API, Face ID enhancements, and much more.
Apple and Google have been developing the Exposure Notification API with close guidance from public health officials. When a user enables the feature and has an app from a public health authority installed, the device will regularly send out a beacon via Bluetooth that includes a random Bluetooth identifier. From there, the Exposure Notification API will download a list of the keys for the beacons that have been verified as belonging to people confirmed as positive for COVID-19 and check against that list. If there is a match, the user may be notified and advised on next steps.

Apple is the ONLY tech company that cares about their customers privacy, and does not sell their Personal data. Googles business model makes you their product! Apple has fought to maintain its customers privacy foremost, and put 256 bit AES encryption in the hands of the users to make it so. Only the user has the key to decrypt those data. Apple doesnt have it.
If you choose your devices passcode wisely, no matter what method the government uses to try to hack into your device, you can keep them out.
A mere Alphanumeric plus Symbol passcode of just nine characters would keep them trying passcodes for more than ~1.374 billion years, trying all the potential passcodes at 1.2 per second (because the passcodes have to be entered on the device, and theres a 1.2 second hardware delay between attempts, even if they get around the ten attempt countdown before it gets bricked!) to try all possible combinations from a set of 72 characters in nine positions! I think your data would be moot long before they got far. Of course they could get lucky and hit it in the first few million tries. . .
Well goody for you. . . Theyll just track you with your laptop.
How do they get you with your laptop?
About a week ago, this warning was circulated to a number of DOD related employees -
_____
“...are being warned not to carry any Apple iPhones, iPads, or any other Apple product, as Apple has integrated very aggressive tracking updates, including heightened hot mic, (capable of monitoring respiration), “contact tracing”, (capable of logging visits to medical providers.
Ironically, this level of surveilance represents potential increased threat to the service members and “...” personnel, and their families.
_____
I might add, while not everyone received the warning, I am aware of staffers being warned not to even travel with their smart phones at this point, and to go “low tech”.
As this warning went out to some, the reality is, these “updates” are then obviously a threat to almost all civilians, as the “contact tracing” will net any contacts, addresses, and speech, and include pinging and conversation with Android users.
Android will likely be doing the same thing shortly, unless it already has, or in the unlikely event this is all stopped by the courts for the numerois Constitutional violations being committed here.
So far, neither the courts or Barr are doing anything to stop any of these 1st, 4th, 5th, etc... Ammendment violations, period.
Just trying to give a heads up.
This is really bad.
These tech giants are regularly and egregiously cutting off conservative free speech, and eliminating privacy, and working to eliminate the core principles of our first 10 Ammendments at the same time!
And they are doing it with impunity!
leave the phone at HOME when traveling!
Or how about “numerous” and “Amendment”.
Almost all new laptops have GPS chips in them too. You connect with WIFI and they send a location ping. I can locate any Mac or MacBook thats been stolen by that method. Many Windows laptops have the same anti theft feature. On Apple you have to enable it to use it, but its quite effective. When our office got burglarized a couple of years ago, we knew right where the stolen gear was when they turned them on. . . and we bricked it, and erased the sensitive data remotely. I also put a message on the screen that popped up on power up that couldnt be removed. This Mac was stolen from XXXX, please call the Stockton Police Department and their phone number. All these were added as soon as the computer started anywhere there was a WIFI Or Ethernet signal. Since its at the firmware level, they needed the super-super user UNIX PASSWORD to make changes. Without it, bupkis.
Newest MacBooks have TouchID, and will brick themselves. But they know where they are. Incidentally, with Voice over internet phone system, more and more desk tops are incorporating GPS for skype, Zoom, etc.
Androids been doing that for years. Where have you been?
Every one of these is opt infor specific health conditions. This is a bogus FUD claim. The military uses Apple iPhones and iPads. This was a rumor started by Apples competitors. There is no truth in it.
The Army Special Operations Command uses iPhones in the field.
Im looking at my iphone right now. Its updated to iOS13.5. It was installed and the first thing I checked was that status. Default is OFF. Tell me again to my face Im a liar!
I got 13.5 too. My Covid 19 thing was off by default. I didnt choose to download anything.
I got my X at the I store, at the Vintage Faire Mall, in Modesto. Maybe you know where it is. 😁
I do have a faraday bag that kills the Damned thing. Just put it in the bag and close it up. Nothing goes from or to anyone.
Then the fabric of your shirt.
Thank you, Im sure Ill need this info at some point.
I suppose, but I have no way to verify this personally, because Tim Cook. I'm on my last Apple phone anyway, an old iPhone SE. My next phone is the open source, open hardware phone Librem 5, from Purism, which, among other things, has camera, GPS, WIFI, and cellular hardware kill switches.
Look, Im not going to argue with an ignorant paranoid fool. Have a good day. Be happy in your ignorance.
After installing the update, I’m experiencing performance issues. Won’t recommend it to anyone.
