The last time the sun was this quiet, Earth experienced an ice age
9News ^ | 05/20/2020

The last time this occurred was between 1650 and 1715, during what's known as the Little Ice Age in Earth's Northern Hemisphere...

Scientists have known this solar minimum was coming because it's a regular aspect of the sun's cycle. Sunspots were peaking in 2014, with low points beginning in 2019, according to NASA.

The sun is also responsible for what's known as space weather, sending particles and cosmic rays streaming across our solar system. The sun's strongly magnetised sunspots release solar flares, which can send X-rays and ultraviolet radiation hurtling toward Earth.

Even when the sun is quiet during the solar minimum, it can be active in other ways, like coronal holes that open in the sun's atmosphere and send out blazing streams of energised particles flying through the solar system on rapid solar wind.

Much like solar flares, these streams of particles during a solar minimum can disrupt the communication and GPS we rely on from satellites.

"We see these holes throughout the solar cycle, but during solar minimum, they can last for a long time — six months or more."

More highly energetic particles called galactic cosmic rays can reach Earth, specifically its upper atmosphere, during a solar minimum. These are created by explosions across our Milky Way galaxy, like supernovae.

"During solar minimum, the sun's magnetic field weakens and provides less shielding from these cosmic rays," Mr Pesnell said.

"This can pose an increased threat to astronauts traveling through space."

This solar minimum ends solar cycle 24. Early predictions estimated the peak of solar cycle 25 will occur in July 2025, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The solar cycle forecast is based on a NOAA and NASA co-chaired international panel. They agree that solar cycle 25 will be similar to cycle 24.

Global Warming is caused by the Sun.

That will become evident when it throttles down.

Thank you for that.

I thought cosmic rays only created the impetus for lightning bolts—not water collection in the atmosphere.

Interesting.

“The last time the sun was this quiet, Earth experienced an ice age”

In name only. Wasn’t there also some large volcanic eruptions contributing to the cooling?

Volcanic activity likely made it worse.

Ice ages - i.e., continental glaciations are cyclic. They seem to correlate best with solar activity.

I knew a prof who was trying to show that volcanic activity was cyclic. I don’t think he ever succeeded.

There are many factors that contribute to glaciation occurring and their severity some of them we think we, some we guess and I am sure there are some others we haven’t a clue about yet.

Variation in cosmic ray showers due to where we are on the galactic rim also contribute.

Yup,my 80’s era textbook stated and Time Magazine reiterated that we are all going to freeze and die as the oil ran out and food can’t be grown.

I get a kick out of the fools who think this BS.

It’s already occurred in the past multiple times. Big and little ice ages are clearly linked to the sun’s cycles.

In fact, it’s one of the reasons when we relocated from CA, instead of going to the northwest which we considered, we decided to remain in lower latitudes of the southwest. We hate long cold gloomy winters and considering what the sun has exhibited in recent times, the north, and northeastern regions of the U.S. could get down right brutally cold.

.

Its why the leftists switched to ‘Climate Change’ instead of Global Warming (which even the village idiot libtards could see wasn’t happening).

Now they can blame anything they want - and the pablum sucking libtard followers can nod their heads like sheep to it.

Martin Armstrong has noted the sunspot activity effecting earthquakes, volcanos, climate, etc...cyclic...remember the year without summer? June 1816 I believe....Washington DC to Maine had 2-3 feet of snow, Armstrong documents these many occurrences and ties them all with the cyclic sun spot activity. Of course the global warming idiots will deny anything other than C02. We are heading into a mini ice age.

The Farmers Almanac uses sunspot activity in many of its forecasts. They note 1816 had the lowest sun activity ever recorded ( yes, they kept records of solar activity back then).

“” “The warming caused by the greenhouse gas emissions from the human burning of fossil fuels is six times greater than the possible decades-long cooling from a prolonged Grand Solar Minimum,” NASA scientists wrote. “Even if a Grand Solar Minimum were to last a century, global temperatures would continue to warm.” “”

In other words, the activity of the Sun will have no effect on our weather. This cult-like BS would make Dr. Goebbels proud.

“We are still in an Ice Age - the Quaternary (Defined to be a period of cyclic continental glaciations). You are in a 10,000-15,000 warming lull, enjoy it.”

Great post. The fact we are still in an Ice Age (i.e. an Interglacial Warm Period) is almost never mentioned. We should pray that we stay warm, because extreme cold kills almost everything expect viruses.

I need a better explanation than this. Where do scientists think most of the heat to the earth comes from? The earth itself? This sure doesn’t sound right. Of course, if these are the same “global warming” experts we’re always hearing from then it all needs to be taken with a grain of salt anyway.

Yeh, I wouldn’t count on manmade warming. Its 61 degrees and breezy in Atlanta today. Pretty chilly. It should be high 70’s to low 80’s.
