As the lockdown continues across the world, pharmaceutical companies are accelerating their efforts to provide a vaccine to prevent the spread of the virus. Unfortunately, Moderna, the company which has gained prominence in news headlines for developing Mrna-1273 vaccine to fight the disease, uses cells of aborted babies.
Although alternatives exist which could be considered morally acceptable, they are not getting as much coverage as Moderna's vaccine work.
Suspicions about the vaccine were raised after checking Moderna’s patents and in particular, the use of the Spike (S) protein.
The idea behind using this Spike protein in a vaccine with messenger RNA (mRNA) is to teach the patient’s immune system to produce its own protein antibodies to block and destroy the virus so the person will not become infected. However, as detailed in several science publications, Spike protein is produced using HEK 293 aborted fetal cells.
Bernadette Smyth of Precious Life slammed the use of aborted babies in the production of a coronavirus vaccine. She stated: “It is horrifying that companies would seek to exploit the remains of aborted babies for financial gain, especially when so many people are totally opposed to such a vaccine because of their moral, ethical and pro-life convictions. We must seek morally sound and ethical solutions, as opposed to this grave violation of human dignity which capitalises off of the death and destruction of aborted babies.”
Since the 1960s, several commonly used vaccines have been researched and manufactured using aborted tissue or cell lines originating from aborted babies. The common vaccines using aborted cell lines today include chickenpox, shingles, hepatitis A, and Rubella (MMR).
The use of such vaccines is a deeply troubling moral and ethical violation for people across the world who understand abortion for what it is; the deliberate killing of living human children in the womb. With the panic and fear created by the Coronavirus Pandemic, it can be expected that pressure will mount (social, and perhaps, governmental) for as many people as possible to be vaccinated for Coronavirus.
There have been increasingly frequent claims from scientists and some in the government that life won’t return to normal until a vaccine is available.
Professor Neil Ferguson - of Imperial College London, which is advising the government on its coronavirus response, warned that a vaccine would be necessary.
"We will have to maintain some form of social distancing, a significant level of social distancing, probably indefinitely until we have a vaccine available," he told BBC Radio 4.
As calls for a vaccine, which could be mandatory for some, increase, many who are opposed for ethical, moral or religious reasons are speaking out.
Yesterday (Sunday 19th April), Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic has said that his opposition to vaccines may prevent him from returning to tennis after the coronavirus pandemic.
There have been calls for all tennis players to be vaccinated when the season eventually resumes, but such a plan would leave World No. 1 Djokovic facing a dilemma.
“Personally I am opposed to vaccination and I wouldn’t want to be forced by someone to take a vaccine in order to be able to travel,” Djokovic said in a live Facebook chat with several fellow Serbian athletes on Sunday
“But if it becomes compulsory, what will happen? I will have to make a decision,” he added.
There are also many who would like to have the protection of a coronavirus vaccine for themselves or loved ones, but will be unable to participate if any part of the research or manufacture of the vaccine has been done with aborted tissue or cell lines originating from abortions.
Other well-known pharmaceutical companies could offer this, however, these solutions are getting notably less press. For instance, Sanofi Pasteur is using its own recombinant DNA platform to manufacture a Covid-19 vaccine. Another company offering an alternative to fetal cell lines was Protein Sciences whose recombinant DNA platform uses insect cells. Their Sf9 cell line comes from the fall armyworm and has been used effectively for several years in producing influenza vaccines.
In 2017, Sanofi Pasteur bought Protein Sciences and is using this same platform for their newly developing Covid-19 vaccine which will allow them the flexibility to make millions of doses of vaccine quickly.

The Moderna vaccine consists of MRNA (Messenger RNA) which is replicated (manufactured) presumably using PCR, It is then encapsulated to be able to get into the cytoplasm. Your cell then carries out the MRNA instructions to make a small amount of spike protein, which then causes you to become immunized.
The article mistakenly says they are using aborted fetal cells to make spike protein they put in the vaccine.
It looks like scientists isolated the spike protein using information from fetal cell lines they infected with the virus. They then determined the protein structure and amino acid sequence, they then used computation to find the encoding sequence in the virus genome. The sin, if any, was to use a commercial cell line from Thermo-Fisher, in the research process.
Moderna does not use spike protein in the vaccine. It is MRNA encapsulated in lipids. The MRNA is not made by cell lines.

HEK 293 cells were generated in 1973 by transfection of cultures of normal human embryonic kidney cells with sheared adenovirus 5 DNA in Alex van der Eb’s laboratory in Leiden, the Netherlands. The cells were obtained from a single, apparently healthy, legally aborted fetus under Dutch law; the identity of the parents and the reason for the abortion are unknown.[1] The cells were cultured by van der Eb; the transfection by adenovirus was performed by Frank Graham, a post-doc in van der Eb’s lab. They were published in 1977 after Graham left Leiden for McMaster University.[2] They are called HEK since they originated in human embryonic kidney cultures, while the number 293 came from Graham’s habit of numbering his experiments; the original HEK 293 cell clone was from his 293rd experiment. Graham performed the transfection a total of eight times, obtaining just one clone of cells that were cultured for several months. After presumably adapting to tissue culture, cells from this clone developed into the relatively stable HEK 293 line.
Subsequent analysis has shown that the transformation was brought about by inserting ~4.5 kilobases from the left arm of the viral genome, which became incorporated into human chromosome 19.[3]
For many years it was assumed that HEK 293 cells were generated by transformation of either a fibroblastic, endothelial or epithelial cell, all of which are abundant in kidneys. However, the original adenovirus transformation was inefficient, suggesting that the cell that finally produced the HEK 293 line may have been unusual in some fashion. Graham and coworkers provided evidence that HEK 293 cells and other human cell lines generated by adenovirus transformation of human embryonic kidney cells have many properties of immature neurons, suggesting that the adenovirus preferentially transformed a neuronal lineage cell in the original kidney culture.[4]
A comprehensive study of the genomes and transcriptomes of HEK 293 and five derivative cell lines compared the HEK 293 transcriptome with that of human kidney, adrenal, pituitary and central nervous tissue.[5] The HEK 293 pattern most closely resembled that of adrenal cells, which have many neuronal properties. Given the location of the adrenal gland (adrenal means “next to the kidney”), a few adrenal cells could plausibly have appeared in an embryonic kidney derived culture, and could be preferentially transformed by adenovirus. Adenoviruses transform neuronal lineage cells much more efficiently than typical human kidney epithelial cells.[4] An embryonic adrenal precursor cell therefore seems the most likely origin cell of the HEK 293 line. As a consequence, HEK 293 cells should not be used as an in vitro model of typical kidney cells.
HEK 293 cells have a complex karyotype, exhibiting two or more copies of each chromosome and with a modal chromosome number of 64. They are described as hypotriploid, containing less than three times the number of chromosomes of a haploid human gamete. Chromosomal abnormalities include a total of three copies of the X chromosome and four copies of chromosome 17 and chromosome 22.[5][6] The presence of multiple X chromosomes and the lack of any trace of Y chromosome derived sequence suggest that the source fetus was female.

At this point, we are not even sure about the denominator ( the infection rate ), since many infected are asymptomatic.
Heck, we are not even sure of the mortality rate ( since may of those counted as Covid-19 deaths are BY DEFAULT, assumed to have died of Covid-19 even when they died of other causes ).
Let’s be honest and say we don’t really know what the mortality percentage is.

This is such an important topic, it would be most helpful
if instead of using words like “presumably” you would provide a link to a reference that supports your presumptions.
Many people may soon have to choose between a job and an injection developed from the kidneys of a sacrificed baby.
Facts supported with references would be helpful considering what is on the line here.

I agree 100%. The headline makes it sound like Moderna is hanging outside abortion clinics with ziplock bags to collect material. That is not the case.
Some people will politicize every thing and find fault with every person.
The global multi faceted organization that is about “population control” is about three things primarily first contraception second abortion third mass vaccinations
