Are you the type of gal who demands to speak to the manager when you feel youve been wronged? You just might be a Karen.
Karen is the latest in a growing line of internet memes poking fun at real-life archetypes. Names such as Karen, Becky and Chad have been co-opted to call out social faux pas online, think: calling the police to shut down a kids lemonade stand because they dont have a permit, or as slangy put-downs like, Dont be such a Becky.
Other names have become so entangled in pop culture that theyve taken on a new meaning: Who can think of anyone but the Kardashians when they hear Kim?
But while the internet directory is fun, real-life Karens (or Beckys, Debbies, Chads and Kyles) bear the brunt of the jokes.
Heres some of the names ruined by the internet, where they came from, and what the people named before the meme think about their online personas.
KAREN
Karen has become social media shorthand meaning a middle-aged white woman potentially with an asymmetric haircut a la 2009 Kate Gosselin who makes a big fuss, and is not-so-blissfully ignorant. While the origins of Karen are oft debated, some point to Dane Cooks 2005 bit about the lamest gal in a group of friends being named Karen, others to the Mean Girls character played by Amanda Seyfried who is admonished for asking pal Cady (Lindsay Lohan) how she can be from Africa if shes white. Some view it as a righteous motivator for the creation of Black Twitter the world wide web knows a Karen when it sees one.
One recent example of a Karen? A woman brawling with the Red Lobster staff, reduced because of the pandemic,

Yeah well my real name is John and it has been linked to toilets and hooker clients and I somehow survive along with all the other Johns.
How about Carl? Linked to many military comic meme’s.
I still don’t get it....
No problem yet in North Texas. I don;t wear a mask because a mask makes my glasses fog up, but I do feel sorry for all the people in the NE and Cali who have to deal with the Karens’.

Should I feel sorry for people with names like Dick Van Dyke ? :)
Hmmmmm? I wonder what “Pajama Boys” name is? Most likely not Chad.
Gunner
Or “Hunter”
Michigan governor Whitmer is the queen of Karens. She is what a Karen becomes when they have some authority.
My real name is Scot. It’s associated with an entire nation of pissed-off men in skirts. :)

When I was a kid, there was a man named Richard Skinner in the church my family attended.
He was rather adamant that his nickname is not, will not, shall never be, Dick.
I think chad should be changes to Todd
We are all Karens in Hawaii. A favorite local activity is tracking down tourists on social media who are violating the 14 day mandatory stay in your hotel room quarantine and having them arrested and thrown in prison.
They shouldn’t be here in the first place, but unfortunately because of American law we can’t block them from coming here. But we can arrest and jail them if they go out of their hotel rooms.
>>Also Sunday, the state reported that its ongoing enforcement of a mandatory 14-day quarantine for arriving passengers netted another suspected violator just an hour before the California resident was to fly home. The COVID-19 Joint Information Center announced that deputy sheriffs arrested the man Saturday at the airport for violating the quarantine.
Abdulla Aliyev, also known as Turgut Aliev, allegedly had been posting images of himself at various locations across Oahu, following his May 1 arrival.
Hawaii officials said Aliyevs social media posts on YouTube and Instagram showed him on the beach, at Diamond Head, at Foster Botanical Garden and at other locations across the island instead of remaining in quarantine at the Airbnb condominium he rented on Kuhio Avenue in Waikiki. He also posted while riding TheBus.
On one of his social media updates, someone wrote that he was violating the states COVID-19 emergency rules, and Aliyev falsely responded that police had already given him a ticket, the joint information center said in a news release.
Concerned citizens who had been monitoring Aliyevs social media posts alerted authorities, the release said. Around 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aliyev posted on a social media account that he was at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport and was leaving in a few hours.
The Attorney General Departments special agents alerted state deputy sheriffs, who caught up with him at the airport one hour before his scheduled flight to Los Angeles.
State Attorney General Clare Connors said in the statement that most people in Hawaii have little tolerance for anyone, either a visitor or returning resident, who flouts the emergency rules to stop the new coronavirus in Hawaii.
If you are out and about in violation of a self-quarantine order, it is likely you will be reported and arrested, she said. We again implore visitors to delay their trips until this pandemic passes and we ask that anyone who arrives here comply with the 14-day self-quarantine rule.
Aliyev, an Azerbaijani who lives in Reseda, Calif., was charged with violating the states 14-day mandatory quarantine for arriving passengers and unsworn falsification to authority. His bail was set at $2,000.<<
Given it’s one year in prison for each violation, he going to be in prison for a few years. Probably the State will ship him to a private prison in Arizona to serve his time.
Me too. And don’t forget the ‘’Dear John’’ although in the internet age no one really understands what a “Dear John’’ letter is.
He said there are jokes that start out along these lines: "What if in immovable Brad met up with an irresistible Chad?"
I do but yeah it’s fading fast in the rear view mirror.
Dont be a tard.
