The blast was reported around 6:30 p.m. while firefighters were responding to a fire at a one-story structure at 327 E. Boyd St., according to LAFD.
Video showed dark plumes of smoke billowing over the area and flames shooting up from one of the buildings.
LAFD estimated that 10 firefighters were hurt. Department spokesman Nicholas Prange told KTLA that the majority of the firefighters injured in the explosion were transported to a hospital, but no information was available on their conditions or the nature of their injuries.
A medical branch was set up for treating and transporting injured firefighters, LAFD said.
We know were at risk when we go to any emergency, but we never want to see this happen. So were hoping that all these firefighters can recover, Prange said.
The department upgraded the incident to a major emergency and over 230 firefighters responded to the fire, going into defensive mode as they battled the flames, LAFD said about 7 p.m.
Were always worried about a secondary explosion, we dont know what caused the first one and were trying to avoid this incident becoming even worse if the second one does happen, Prange told KTLA.

It’s funny how you said, “Forgive me ...”
Oh, yes. Now I see it.
Yikes!
I’m listen to the scanner traffic of the Boyd St incident. The order was just given to leave all equipment in place. Not to remove any equipment used on the scene. WTH never heard of anything like that before.
Wuhish?
Could be a meth lab then. Lots of toxic residue from them.
