Since Trump is encouraging folks to reopen the country, why has he not done so with the US government, which he heads?

Seems to me that government offices should immediately re-open around the country. Let’s get back to work!

The more government offices stay closed or undermanned the less mishchief they do. Why would we want the bureaucrats to be all back at work? Why would Donald Trump want to bring back the bureaucratic opposition to himself back to their desks?

National Parks are closed. I’m trying to plan a vacation but don’t know when they will open or what restrictions there will be.

Yes, but we are still paying their salaries, where they sit at home playing. If there’s work to do, get back to work. Otherwise, how about we fire them all.

The executive branch is working. The judicial system, as it were, is working; the senate is working. It’s only the house of reps that’s not working and that’s an nancy pelosi issue not a President Trump issue. What a stupid post.

What do you want them to do? Do you need their help? An agent of the Federal government will be with you shortly...

I like to think if all we did was pay the dead-wood to stay home, it would be a net benefit.

I thought it would be the end of the world if fedgov shut down. But of course they’re getting their pay and the unions are getting their dues...

It’d be nice. Then the Corps of Engineers might put the docks back in at my favorite fishing spot!

What a stupid comment. Surely you know that Trump has no control over the Senate and the house, they do not work for him.

Even if the government offices are open, does that mean there’s work being done?

Ultimately it is cheaper to pay their salaries while they twiddle their thumbs at home than to put them to work dreaming up new regulations and new restrictions on our lives.

The U.S. federal government rffecrs the national, through legislation and administerial oversight, but does not produce goods or services for the American consumer, therefore, they are nonessential to the public economy. Yes, they purchase items, goods, vehicles, ships, and aircraft for the government to carry out national foreigbn policies, but do no building or manufacturing that you and I could buy.

The bureaucracy is by and large deep state and inefficient. We don’t need them to be at “work”.

We pay their salaries whether they diddle at the office OR at home .... it is what it is.

Most of the ones we want out will be gone in November anyway ...

Yellowstone reopens on Monday (5/18).

Most federal agencies here in the DC area are “open”, in the sense that the employees are at least “teleworking” if not reporting for work at the various office buildings.

This data from Netherlands clearly shows how stupid it was to shutdown the economy!

Since Trump is encouraging folks to reopen the country, why has he not done so with the US government, which he heads?

Because they're being paid whether they work or not? Private sector people have to work to get paid (except for welfare clients, many of whom should be considered government employees whose main duty is to vote).

A more sensible policy in times of enforced layoffs would be across-the-board salary cuts (or furloughs) for goverment employees commensurate with their reduction in workload.

To which government offices do you refer?
Some government operations never shut down, they just moved to the homes of millions of employees. My husband has been working from home since the end of March. Some employees of the air force base where he worked will return to the base next week. The return of the workforce is being phased in slowly. None of them ever stopped working.
