It was a great airplane...I loved the few times I traveled on it. What a ride!
“The Boeing 777X is the latest series of the long-range, wide-body, twin-engine Boeing 777 family from Boeing Commercial Airplanes. The 777X features new GE9X engines, new composite wings with folding wingtips, greater cabin width and seating capacity, and technologies from the Boeing 787. The 777X was launched in November 2013 with two variants: the 777-8 and the 777-9. The 777-8 provides seating for 384 passengers and has a range of 8,730 nmi (16,170 km) while the 777-9 has seating for 426 passengers and a range of over 7,285 nmi (13,500 km). The 777-9 first flew on January 25, 2020, with deliveries expected to commence in 2021. “
But in the future I won't make any exceptions. One reason why I don't fly JetBlue.
Are they going to replace them with 737 Max?
Triple 7s were nice planes. The updated DC-9s that Delta is getting rid of, not so much.
So, how difficult is it to modify these to add rotary launchers for long range cruise missiles? (Asking for a friend?)
Boeing did this to themselves - they are no longer considered "Best in Class" with any model, and COVID-19 might have just made their new 777-X obsolete - unless Emirates decides to replace all of their A380s with it.
Nobody can really say "If it ain't Boeing, I ain't going" any more. Just say "I ain't going" - because increasingly, if you must go, it will be an Airbus (made in Alabama) operating your flight.
I love the MD 90s. Always sat on the left side. Two seats. And behind the emergency exit. Lots of legroom. Like first class.
how much does a used 777 sell for
these days?
Sad. My wife and I flew to Europe on our honeymoon on a Delta Boeing 777 in 2001. We fly a lot but have flown on a 777 only one other time.
I worked on the engine (drafting). We were the best solid-modeling CAD house on the planet at the time, doing things that took us into art to part & cut design/detail from weeks to hrs. Heartbreaking...
To sell the 777 Boeing did something awesome. They set up a section of the cabin with a couple of rows each of the exact seating and space that competing aircraft had at the time so buyers could compare it to the 777. Was accurate but competitors called it the “dirty pool.”
Turns out, Delta's not ready when you are. ;^)
I know a 777 pilot who flies for Delta. He’s ex-military and a Patriot. I wonder what he’ll say about this.
So are they retiring them or just mothballing them?
