Up north winter kills the drive-in movie idea. Daylight savings time doesn’t help during the summer.
How do the democrat governors persist in permitting drive-in movies while denying Christians the right to celebrate masses at those same drive-in theaters on Sunday during daylight hours when movies cannot be shown?
who ever actually watched the movies at those things?
“...steamed up windows in my 63’ Plymouth on the back row of the Atomic Drive-In.”
Same here only with my 62’Bubble Top Chev at the Route 4 Drive In, Paramus NJ.
I think with the small compact cars it would be painful sitting through a double header.
Also, would be tough to make out in too.
If this does transpire, i would really enjoy a drive-in movie. And my husband growing up where there were no drive-ins, would love to experience it.
The snack bar will be closing in ten minutes.
The end of the drive-in movie era happened at the same time as the disappearance of the automobile bench seat.
Coincidence?
"Mommy...How come there's no people in that car?"
The song Night Moves comes to mind right now.
I doubt anyone will be planting 250 poles in the ground with a window speaker attached like the old drive in’s. That leaves low power radio frequency audio reception. But many modern cars like my Hyundai with a high end (power) Infinity audio system will only play for a couple minutes if the car ignition is off due to battery drain. Bluetooth doesn’t have the range so BT portable speakers are out. We might just have a revival of the Boom box!
I don’t think this will last. People are used to big bright pictures and great audio....like many have in their living rooms now.
Why would anyone want to go to *any* kind of movie theater, when you can be at home, fridge and bathroom nearby, able to rewind, pause, use closed captions and headphones while seeing an image that's far,far better than a movie screen?
I would be happy to see drive ins make a comeback. If the public maintains a social distancing frame of mind after the crisis is over, they would be a entertainment outlet. The Beast with Two Heads on the screen while The Beast with Two Backs gets it on in the car.
More drive-ins = Increased Birthrate.
Loudmouth clowns squawking and talking on the phone.
There are very few drive-in theaters left. Most were sold for their land to build more profitable residential and commercial buildings. I can’t see any investor paying the costs of new land and the build out. Wish it were so, but I doubt it.
I remember going to the drive in movies with my parents. I had to sit on the roof because my parents refused to put their cigarettes away for 2 hours, even though I had asthma. Nevertheless, I always enjoyed the movies, like Ben Hur, Cleopatra, and others which are considered classics today. And, on July 4, all we had to do was line up our lawn chairs on our little street alongside the neighbors and we had a perfect view of the fireworks display the drive-in put on.
