Two things strike me.
One is the level of enthusiasm in the North for the Republicans versus the lack of enthusiasm in the South for the Democrats and their downright depression about the divisions in their party.
Two, Southern threats and demands are making no impression on Northerners.

A lot of anti-Lincoln nonsense has been posted on FR threads regarding the Republican 1860 convention.
Among other claims:
- Hired train-loads of Lincoln supporters shipped to Chicago -- no, those were Seward supporters, Lincoln's were the home-town team.
- Hired loud cheerers for Lincoln, to drown out opposition supporters.
According to Catton here, Seward already had many, so Lincoln's men hired two of their own.
- Most Northerners didn't care about slavery.
In fact, anti-slavery sentiments were sweeping the North bringing to Republicanism former Whigs, Know-Nothings and Democrat Free Soilers.
It's what gave Republicans confidence in victory.
- The real issue was tariffs, not slavery.
In fact, just one of the Republican Platform's 16 planks supported protective tariffs, while six planks opposed slavery & secession.
Of course, people suffering from Lincoln Derangement Syndrome don't care about the facts of history, as with Trump Derangement Syndrome, only their own hatreds matter, and whatever vehicles they can use to express it.
