Clinton campaign knew about Fusion GPS plan to have Christopher Steele brief reporters about dossier

The top lawyer for Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign told House Intelligence Committee investigators that he was aware of Fusion GPS's plans to have British ex-spy Christopher Steele brief reporters about his controversial anti-Trump research during the 2016 contest.

The December 2017 testimony of Marc Elias, the Clinton campaign's general counsel, was revealed through the release of dozens of Russia investigation witness interviews last week. Elias, the head of the Perkins Coie political law group, hired Fusion on behalf of the campaign.

Then-Rep. Trey Gowdy of South Carolina asked whether Elias knew that Fusion sent Steele to talk to media outlets during 2016, and Elias said he was "aware that he talked to media outlets in that time period" and admitted that he knew about the meetings before they happened. He said he was not involved in deciding which journalists Steele would meet but was present when the discussions setting up the meetings happened. He said the decision by Fusion GPS may have been made during a meeting at his Washington office.

DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s December report criticized the Justice Department and the FBI for at least 17 “significant errors and omissions” related to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act warrants against former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page and for the bureau's reliance on Steele’s dossier.

The December 2017 testimony of Marc Elias, the Clinton campaign’s general counsel
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gowdy knew the dossier was paid for by Clinton in Dec of 2017. He knew there was nothing to the Muller probe.
Then why was Gowdy saying this in March of 2018?
Mar 19, 2018 · Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) made waves Sunday by telling President Trump’s lawyer that if his client is innocent, he should “act like it”
Unfortunately, the corporate media has grossly mischaracterized these lawsuits, couching their aims in humanitarian terms. Minnesota’s Star Tribune ran a headline titled “Older Minnesota voters file suit to change absentee voting rules.” The corporate media has conveniently ignored that Democrats are using the coronavirus pandemic to accomplish their longtime goal of overturning much of American election law.
Even more stunning, all 16 lawsuits are being run by Perkins Coie attorney Marc Elias. Elias was chief counsel to both the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee in the 2016 presidential election, and was one of the key figures in the Russiagate conspiracy to remove President Donald Trump from office.
Elias and another Perkins Coie partner, Michael Sussmann, hired the opposition-research firm Fusion GPS to try to create ties between the Trump campaign and Russia. This led to Fusion GPS paying money to former British spy Christopher Steele, who paid money to anonymous Russian sources via a British national named Edward Baumgartner, who had ties to Russia. -----The Federalist
