Charlie Baker announces four-phased reopening plan for Massachusetts businesses shuttered by coronavirus (Mass.)

Gov. Charlie Baker laid out a four-phased plan to restart the state’s shattered economy on Monday but stopped short of saying which industries will get the green light first.

Baker said the “goal” is to begin reopening some businesses on May 18 “starting with the businesses with the least face-to-face contact” and gradually opening up from there. The final phase will be achieving what Baker called a “new normal.”

“We want to whip this virus into the rearview mirror but none of that is going to happen overnight,” Baker said during a coronavirus briefing at the State House on Monday.

My husband’s good friend ,who is also his barber, called him this morning to schedule a haircut for May 20th. I told him not to count on it because I doubt barbershops and salons will be in the first phase. Exactly what constitutes a business that isn’t face to face?
My son works for a company that just moved into beautiful new office space in Boston. They have a 7 year lease but my son said they will pretty much stick with work at home. Despite the rent they still figure they’ll save money.
