Then everybody needs to wear two masks. One to cover their mouth, and the other to cover their eyes. Maybe they should cover their ears as well while they’re at it.

Right - this sounds very familiar.
I doubt it it unique to this virus. They eye is an opening not covered by skin unless you close your eyelid.
As an aside, I wonder if this could allow the immune system to find it earlier in the cycle in order to start building antibodies before it reaches the respiratory system?
The Chinese doctor that warned in January said it could infiltrate through the eyes.
