A Southwest Airlines jetliner hit and killed someone as it landed at Austin's main airport Thursday night, authorities said.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the pilot of Flight 1392 reported seeing a person on the runway shortly after the Boeing 737 touched down at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport at 8:12 p.m. local time.

The carrier said the pilot maneuvered to try to avoid the person, whose identify wasn't immediately released.

The driver of an airport operations vehicle subsequently reported finding the person on the runway. Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services said its personnel pronounced the person, an adult, dead at the scene.

Next FAA directive: All planes must be equipped with a pedestrian alert warning system.

Maybe it was suicide by aircraft. When I was a tower controller, I looked out one day, and saw two dudes walking right down the middle of my runway. To a controller, the runway is sacred, and a controller gets highly displeased, when someone is on his runway. I gave USAF Security Police access to my runway, and they swooped down on these guys.

Probably Harrison Ford heading for the terminal.

After all, it was terminal.

This was my first thought. Seems it would have to be intentional to make everything work.

Back during the first decades of automobiles, there were suicides by people diving under the vehicles as they approached and passed. My grandfather hit and killed a poor soul in Chattanooga in the 1930’s. He dove right under the wheel(s). The police told him that the guy had attempted this several times before.

Texas is a modified comparative negligence state. That means if the injured party’s negligence was more than 50% of the cause of the accident, the injured party can’t receive compensation. I would say it’s pretty certain that being in the middle of an active runway was negligence greater than 50%.

And yet boys & girls another wonderful object lesson in the world of:

M.P.S.

Mystery Physics Sh!t

Or 2 solid objects, can not occupy the same space, at the same time.

Also Tonnage right apply, as in a 200lb man occupying the (MPS) space reserved for a landing aircraft can not expect to stop a gazillion lb aircraft.

End result the aforementioned carbon unit (man) will become *DRT, and t, and t, and t.

*DRT = Dead Right There

Good!. That only leaves all the traumatized people on the 737. Scared emotionally for life.

Hard to swerve a Boeing 737 on final.

It’s at that moment when it ceases being an airplane and becomes instead a 75 ton tricycle with minimal braking.

Was the victim on his cell phone?
Maybe he didn’t hear a plane coming his way.
They can get awfully quiet once they have landed on the runway. Maybe we should install Beep-Beep horns in pilot cabinet.

... I was gonna go for a reference to the old Death Race movie with David Carradine where the old folks home doctors and staff put their patents out by the curb but then Frankenstein mows the staff down where they are hiding instead.

Euthanasia day at the geriatric ward.

These days New York just sends the sick back to the homes.

In a few years they’ll be crowing over reducing senior care costs to the State.

If Ford had been the pilot, the hit would have occurred on the taxiway.

“...greedy plaintiff lawyers are doubtless concocting lawsuits.”

Have you or your relatives been hit by a passenger liner while you were taking a walk on a major runway? You may be entitled to compensation by the airline, the airport, the runway, the people that make the tires, or God. Contact me as I pass by you right after the ambulance I am chasing while I actively solicit my next case. Or call toll free at 1-800-438-7427, (1-800-get-rich) And don’t wait as some other fool, uh, poor person may suffer the same fate. Call now, my answering machine is waiting. I will get back to you as soon as I catch my breath.

Maneuvering a 737 at landing speeds would be a helluva trick!

Suicide by airliner?
