I just use Alka-Seltzer. Famotidine and ranitidine take too long.
Reminds me of many years ago, my dearly departed Aunt had been suffering from headaches, so she finally went to the doctor. Her blood pressure was sky high, and he put her on blood pressure medication, and told her she’d have to stay on it the rest of her life. She told me all about the visit, including him asking her what meds she was in. She told him none. Then proceeded to tell me she had been eating Alka Seltzer like candy for her stomach. I explained to her that Alka Seltzer will drive your blood pressure up. She didn’t know OTC meds were among the meds she should have told the doctor out. She stopped taking Alka Seltzer and never got the BP meds filled. Her blood pressure remained normal.
I use prescription omeprazole (Prilosec) for my GERD. I can tolerate two, maybe three days off of it, but then all hell breaks loose in my gut. Mine’s neuromuscular - my doc said I get an acid flare-up and my gullet doesn’t open and close properly when it happens.
