Just purchased a replacement piece of electrical testing gear. A nicely encapsulated item sealed so as to be highly water and dust resistant. Would you believe it is labeled as a known carcinogen by a west coastal state?

do NOT take any “heartburn’ medication, other than pepto bismol.

What you need to do instead is

1) a course of antibiotics to kill the Heliobactor Pylori
2) re-establish healthy flori by probiotics.

Google heliobactor pylori.

They have know this foe 30+ years. My dad died because of the quackery of “modern medicine” feeding him Zantac instead of addressing the problem.

The drug you’re thinking of is Pepcid. That’s still OK to take, but if you need some then you have to get there early on the right day because it’s being hoarded.
********************************************
Yes, my doctor switched me to OTC Pepcid (generic = famotidine) 20 mg tabs last year when Zantac was recalled. But for the past 4 or 5 weeks it has been impossible to find. I have plenty fo the time being but will pick up some more as soon (if ever) as Costco gets it back in stock.

Science in the Public Interest claimed it caused cancer earlier last year, but, having used it since 1999 I ignored the notices. Now I wish I hadn’t as I can’t find any anywhere. The Di-Gel I used before then is out of production as well. Nothing else works for me so now I worry about bleeding ulcers again. My pharmacist told me that generics can be off by as much as 15%, I think he said, so I get the real stuff now.

“But for the past 4 or 5 weeks it has been impossible to find.”

Probably because about four weeks ago someone announced famotidine might be good for WuFlu. One little whisper about something like this results in buying sprees.

I use prescription omeprazole (Prilosec) for my GERD. I can tolerate two, maybe three days off of it, but then all hell breaks loose in my gut. Mine’s neuromuscular - my doc said I get an acid flare-up and my gullet doesn’t open and close properly when it happens.

Ranitidine worked for me and fairly quickly. The only time I needed it was when my gut was about 30 to 40 pounds overweight. When I took the weight off I felt fine and never used it since.

There are other causes, though, some very serious.

“Cyclamates were banned in 1970. One study a few years after the ban indicated that a person would need to consume around 800 soft drinks PER DAY to get cyclamate-caused cancer.”

Remember that. They were the only diet soda I could stand to drink, and IIRC, the dosage level to cause cancer was like you or I drinking a 55-gallon drum of the stuff a day. I was drinking a case of Coke a day back then, but it wasn’t THAT bad.

If I recall Rick got his buns in trouble at CNN over Jewish comments about the media. Ushered in Brooke Baldwin who took over his show.

Antihistamines stop acid production in the stomach. Works for me every time, whether OTC or RX.

I was given a prescription to Tagamet back in the early 80’s for an ulcer, it worked for me and might still be available. Since OTC Pepcid came out I have used that as needed. Tried Zantac and was prescribed Nexium but my preference has been Pepcid. I also used to use Maylox and Mylanta. Someone told me years ago one might work better than another depending on what part of the stomach has the issue.

If the stuff causes cancer, I am likely to go first. Under medical supervision, I was prescribed and took Zantac or generic ranitidine every day, before every meal, for the last twenty years as a way to counter the side effects of another medication.

Lawyers would sue over everything after Prop 65 passage (which requires “notification of public” if any chemicals known to cause cancer are in something.

The end result of that is that literally EVERYTHING is labeled with a warning that it “may contain or contain chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer”.
