Its BULL *hit. Just like so much these days. It was found to sometimes contain the same chemical that is in bacon in about the same amount(Full dose = 1 strip of bacon). Didn’t you know that if you eat bacon then you will get cancer and DIE? There is exactly that much credibility to this attack.

Cheap generics made from ingredients in China. They substitute similar chemicals that are cheaper, chemically similar, but are poison and cause cancer.

The drug you’re thinking of is Pepcid. That’s still OK to take, but if you need some then you have to get there early on the right day because it’s being hoarded.

Reminds me of many years ago, my dearly departed Aunt had been suffering from headaches, so she finally went to the doctor. Her blood pressure was sky high, and he put her on blood pressure medication, and told her she’d have to stay on it the rest of her life. She told me all about the visit, including him asking her what meds she was in. She told him none. Then proceeded to tell me she had been eating Alka Seltzer like candy for her stomach. I explained to her that Alka Seltzer will drive your blood pressure up. She didn’t know OTC meds were among the meds she should have told the doctor out. She stopped taking Alka Seltzer and never got the BP meds filled. Her blood pressure remained normal.

Cyclamates were banned in 1970. One study a few years after the ban indicated that a person would need to consume around 800 soft drinks PER DAY to get cyclamate-caused cancer.

Given enough time, MONEY, and research, nearly everything that is 'bad' today will be deemed 'okay' later. Eggs, milk, coffee, bacon, meat fats, yada yada yada.
