A true Texan must:

- know how to field dress a deer

- know how to play 42

- know how to drive a stick

Great unanswered question - what was the last U.S. vehicle you could buy with a three-speed stick shift?

OMG I wish I could drive a stick Challenger for a little while.

Just a quarter mile or so...it’s all I ask.

Jeep Wrangler, Wrangler Unlimited and Gladiator are also available with a six-speed manual gearbox.

Maybe you are not aware but Teslas have had a downloadable program for a couple of years now called Tesla emissions mode with a whoopie cushion icon which does exactly that and you can position the sound for whichever seat you want etc etc. Elon Musk has a sense of humour in a certain weird way. No other car maker has this AFAIK. As Casey Stengel said you can look it up.

Years ago my Bicentennial reenactment group bought a 1965 school bus with a “crashbox” transmission. I learned to double-clutch in the Army so I became the designated driver; no one else could learn how, as it had to be d-c’d both shifting up and down.

Years later I got deployed to Central Asia where our off-base vehicle was a Land Rover with a standard transmission that only I could drive because none of the active military there even knew how to clutch shift. Felt like 007 tearing around Uzbekistan and gear jamming.

Well they just said here’s 30. They didn’t say it was the complete comprehensive list. 8>)

I think you can still buy an Aston Martin with a manual transmission. I believe it is a NCO (no cost option).
very rare, though.

I was looking at the title of the thread, "Every New Car You Can Still Buy with a Manual Transmission."

I just traded a 5 speed manual Focus - one of the best shifters I have driven. Glad I didn’t get the horrible dual clutch auto. Always thought Ford should have put the 6 speed manual that they installed in the ST into the regular Focus. A taller highway gear would have been nice.

I bought my first car with a manual transmission in my thirties before I learned how to drive stick - I figured that way I’d have to learn whether I was any good at it or not! And I did - loved manual transmissions even on cheapo cars just used for commuting, although stop-and-go traffic in the city could be exhausting.

I finally had to bail on manuals because they were too much of a challenge for my wife, and we did get to the point where having the flexibility to swap off cars became a necessity. Still miss it though.

18 years ago I taught my daughter to drive it. She used to embarass boys who would just look and wonder what the heck it is. Great fun!

15 years ago, I also taught my daughter to drive in my six speed stick-shift Jeep Wrangler. She can drive just about any truck or passenger vehicle out there.

I have four cars, two of which are manuals. Our first gen Scion xB and my Scion FR-S are stick. The Scion iA and Chevy silverado Z71 are auto.

I hate the auto in the iA because it really struggles going up the first hundred yards of our 1/4 mile long driveway. It sownshifts way too late. The xB is a dream as a stick. As an auto it would feel hopelessly gutless.

I think the automatic has been proven to be the faster of the two options. 8>)

We had a couple of 60s Mercedes diesels, and both had a four on the tree.

That may be so but I LOVE to speedshift.

The only thing manual now is my Harley, dang it.

It’s fun but it’s not the same.

The Magnum has a weird bump shift thing and if you’re not careful you find yourself redlining in a heartbeat.

Not on the list, but Jeep Wranglers are still available with a manual transmission.
