You can find this fun quotation puzzle, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications. I challenge us with the best ones out there.

The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).

Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated, you’ll be solving them all within a few days. If you’re stumped, take a break and return to it.

PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and how you made out.

You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram.

I suggest printing these out and work them on paper. If you need a little help you can copy and paste it to Hal’s Helper below.

You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper, but I recommend that you do NOT look at the letter counter.

HAL'S CRYPTOGRAM HELPER

One last request. Feel free to post a fun or clever clue, the more tangential to the quotation the better, but please don’t put the actual words of the quote in the clue.

Good one today and is so true. I’d rather be out in flyover country any day of the week.

Solution to our last puzzle:

TO PAINT IS A POSSESSING RATHER THAN A PICTURING. PHILIP GUSTON

Today's CG is fairly tricky, but a good message from someone I wish was still around. Hang in there, and take a break if you're stumped. Eventually the first name appeared.

Yep. First name of the author and three and two letter words.

For some reason, I found myself humming that song by John Denver.

Just less than 2 min. first word, (should have gotten from that) the beginning of the 2nd word, *then* the whole 2nd word.
Instead, finished 9th word beginning with ‘th..’ since there aren’t too many 4-letter words beginning like that.
That gave me the 2nd word...

Big words from a person given the way they* made their living.

*English lacks a third person gender neutral singular, so sue me...

Common letter gave a good start, but I still had to backtrack a lot…

About three minutes, and a quote I extremely agree with.

Oh, that’s a nice one. I picked at the small words till the name became clear, and from there out it wasn’t too difficult. Thank you for keeping this up!

A segment the author did about mailboxes around the country. Yep, pretty tangential. :)

Yes, just didn’t get it till around 1300....I had ‘checked’ the site around 1215 or so and it wasn’t there...
Doesn’t appear to be a ‘resend’ as it had the 0945 send time..

Oh well..
