San Clemente canteen owner runs out of ‘everything,’ and will reopen Thursday

Jeff Gourley had the best weekend in the eight years he’s had his San Clemente restaurant open.

“We ran out of everything, down to the bare walls,” he said Monday, May 4, after serving dine-in food and drinks at Nomad’s Canteen over the weekend though Gov. Gavin Newsom’s shutdown order aimed at curbing the spread of the coronavirus is still in effect.

“It was record-breaking,” he said. “We sold every tortilla, bottle, can and every margarita. These were the best three business days ever. People were buying shirts, beers for each other and expensive tequila shots for folks they didn’t even know.”

Now, Gourley, who operates the restaurant/bar on the second floor of Nomad’s Hotel, is waiting to restock his supplies so he can be up and running on Thursday.

The Dana Point resident said he opened the restaurant on Friday, May 1, based on a decision made by the Orange County Board of Supervisors last week.

But confusion arose over whose orders to follow: guidelines that county officials said would provide best practices for businesses to operate safely, or a state directive from mid-March that remains in place limiting restaurants to take-out service only.

On Friday, Gourley was visited by an inspector from the Orange County Health Care Agency and on Sunday, he was notified by phone that he was in violation of the state order, he said.

This is what will happen at restaurants and bars across the country when they reopen. But Dems can’t allow this. Prosperity is verboten. We must continue to stay sick and be miserable

Your point is exactly right. Leftist, criminal democrats can’t allow prosperous people since they will not be dependent on government and thus are much harder to control and threaten.
