RIP
RIP. Great coach, but not so great on the NFL rules committee.
RIP Coach.
Shula vs Lombardi must have been something back in the day.
Shula, Griese and Csonka were the bane of Bills fans in the 1970s (much like Belichek and Brady were for the last 20 years)
I clearly remember watching Shula’s Dolphins back in their heyday. My dad’s favorite player was Larry Czonka. Mine was Mercury Morris, mainly because of his name.
Csonka was a monster - loved to see him run.
‘RIP. Great coach’
Shula built a dynamo with parts that wouldn’t even be considered as player material in today’s game...
RIP.....football icon.....
I saw Lombardi and Shula on the sidelines at the Detroit Lions’ Tiger stadium as a kid.
Though the represented the opposing team we had tremendous respect for the both of them because unlike Detroit, they coached not only Superbowl teams but teams that consistently did something Detroit never did...win!
Growing up a Raider fan in the 60’s and 70’s, I loved the toughness of Czonka, Kiick, and Morris, the Dolphin defense and the athleticism of Warfield, but to this day cannot stand Bob Griese.
And he never got to see another team with a perfect season. RIP, coach.
Yes, so much so that Comedian Steve Martin had a comedy bit on one of his albums saying "Buffalo beat Miami? You're sick you're sick!"
The 75 Raiders-Dolphins playoff game was one of the greatest games ever.
Those who say the ‘85 Bears were the GOAT team of the NFL can go jump off a cliff. Who did the Bears lose to? That’s right, the Dolphins, and they were mediocre in 1985.
Do you happen to remember a 49er named Skip Vanderbundt? I don’t think he had much of a career, but his parents both taught at my junior high so we heard about him endlessly, especially from his dad.
Shula’s best coaching job might have been getting the 1982 Dolphins to the Super Bowl in a strike shorten season. His starting QB was David Woodley.
Bud Grant turns 93 in a few weeks, I think he’s pretty much the last one standing from the Golden-Era of the NFL.
Marv Levy is 94.
I remember him! I remember him as a pretty good LB not perennial all-pro maybe made the pro bowl once.
