The Air Force confirms to WWL-TV that a part of one of the B-52s participating in the America Strong flyover today fell off the Stratofortress while over New Orleans, crashing to the ground.
No one was hurt, and the air-worthiness of the plane was not affected as it flew on to do its Baton Rouge flyover, and then returned to base.
The Air Force says the part, an access hatch, landed on private property.

I always loved the BUFF. Such a workhorse. In 1972, when I was in USAFSS (back in those days that was USAF Intelligence), we identified targets for the Linebacker bombings. The BUFF and the F105 and even a few F-111s were “up and at ‘em.” The US Navy deployed A6s and A7s, if I recall.
2020-1952 = 68 is correct math (until a democrat or MSM journalist examines it).
H model, 2020 - 1961 = 59 Still correct math.
I mean the plane is close to 50 something years old.
OK
All good on this front, my brother! Just keeping myself busy with killing weeds, snakes and bottles of some good vino! How about yourself?
Trust me, I don’t. Did you hear about he latest “challenge” for those geniuses? The “Peter Pan Challenge”. The Tide Pod eaters, condom sniffers and toilet seat lickers are now making videos of themselves pi$$ing in their pants.
Not making this crap up!
Well, that’s going to affect Boeing stock.
No, it was next after the Martin XB-51 (3 jet engines) which flew in prototype but never went into production. (First flight 1949)
Next was the Convair XB-53 light bomber. It never got off the drawing board, and was noted for a forward swept wing and was cancelled in 1949.

As I said. I was ballparking it. I didnt realize the boys living in their basement would try to make themselves feel good with a snotty post.
“Not uncommon”
So, rollercoasters are like automated parts bins?
I beat the Chinese are quaking in their tightly bound boots
Good thing this didn't happen over Maine.
We were at a party
His earlobe fell in the deep
Someone reached in and grabbed it
It was a rock lobster..

Four big insults. All wrong. But, you do seem to know what a snotty post is.

So was I.
Man, that happened all the time in the old 1964 C-130s I flew. Just another day. :)
In fairness, those B-52s had recently returned from basing in Guam for bombing missions over Vietnam. In contrast, my father had recently rebuilt and repainted his 1946 vintage Navion and kept it in an enclosed metal hangar. He still has it, in a metal hangar, fully maintained, and in flyable condition.
Nevertheless, despite the blemishes and defects that come with heavy, rough work by aircraft, I have no doubt that the B-52s that I saw in the early 70s were fully mission capable. For our public tour, the nuclear weapons consoles were covered by canvas shields with uniformed MPs on guard. The unacknowledged but obvious nuclear bomb bunkers were a few hundred yards away.
LOL, Can relate.
I lived in a barracks out there (area 2) for several years.
It is now a prison.
Spent years driving to Range 63 - some 50+ miles away. Happy to be living in the Frozen North now...
I’d hate to be the maintenance airman responsible.
“Parts start to fall off when you are that old in HUMAN years.”
Or at least don’t work so well.
All of which China and Russia have counted as they increase there arsenal.
Actually, imagine if the USAF flew one over some place like Amhert MA. The protests against those war wmongers who protect their freedom of speech!
